MAF to SD: VSS?

I'm considering a speed density swap on my 88 IROC. Will the speed sensor used with a cable driven speedo work with the SD ECM? Would I have to change to the later style VSS? I have a 5 speed if it makes a difference.

The VSS worked with my conversion. However there is a "box" to check in the code for VSS on the SD ECM tables.

Are you talking about the yellow speed buffer box or something in the PROM? I plan on burning my own chips, however, I'm still reading up on it and have a lot to learn yet. Thanks for your response.
