timing question

what do you disconnect when you set the timing on tpi cars???? i need to set timing on my car.... and what should it be set at???

theres a greyish connector near the firewall on the passenger side, not sure what its called or anything though and stock they are set at 6* advanced

on my 87 its a brown wire with a black tracer near the ( if u have ac) ac condenser firewall area


gl! 6 Degrees for a 350 10 for 305

It's 6 degrees for a 305 as well.

Sorry to bring this post back up......so I disconnect the wire.....set the timing, then what? Just plug it back in? Or is there a process that you have to follow?

Disconnect the wire and set your timing. Turn-off the car and re-connect the plug. Then enjoy your new timing!

Another thing. I'm sure you've researched it but TPI cars like timing. So I would set it at 6* in the begining, but play with it afterwards to find where the car pulls best at. I have read many articles where stock TPI'ed 350's like as much as 12* btdc! See where yours like it.

Yeah I just put the Edelbrock intake and runners on along with a new cam and some other toys too.
I'm trying to fine tune it a little bit before it goes to the dyno. After that they can custom burn me a new chip.
