Diagnostic gone wrong ?!

Car: 1987 GTA
Engine: 350 TPI w/ extras !
Transmission: 700R4
Diagnostic gone wrong ?!
I took my car too a garage the other day so he could tune it up, ive got that in a separate post, he wanted to check the codes so he put a paperclip into the port and checked them, then had a look under the hood etc etc, however. he forgot too take the paperclip out when he finished so i started the car without knowing !! it started fine and the SES light kept flashing thats when i realised he hadnt taken it out, i switched off, removed the paperclip, started back up and everything felt and sounded normal.
the only thing is my temperature gauge is now not working ! is this what happens as a result of starting the car with it in diagnostic mode, any help would be great, needless too say i was a bit peeved

Transmission: built 700R4 Auto
Axle/Gears: 10 bolt 3.73
That would be my prognosis too. I have done this a couple of times by accident with no damage. Just don't do it too much or you could have problems.
