Rebuilding time

I have been waiting for months to post this topic now, because I did not want to talk about rebuilding my car till I was going to rebuild it. I have a 305 tpi that is running not so well. I pretty much have the whole list of whats wrong with it and I am going to address those issues as well. It has a few upgrades. Headers, 3" y-pipe, accell cap rotor and coil, 8mm wires, ported plenum, lock-up switch, nitrous almost installed, kn's, I have part of a cai, accell 19# fuel njectors, 160deg. thermostat, no air pump fully removed, coolant bypass, and air foil. There is probably a few more. I want to rebuild the 305 with a .060" over bore, lt1 heads and intake, I want a real high duration cam with @.500 lift, 2800 lock up torque converter and full tranny rebuild. I need ideas for lots of little things, or suggestions to complement my set up. I am not going with a 350. Suspension will be upgraded as well. Any help would be great I am starting tear down in 2 weeks. Money is of some concern, but I have another $500 dollars over everything I already listed. I need a good set of the lt1 heads though, I have a intake already. Thanks in advance.

Just from curiousity, why did you decide not to build a spare 350 while the 305 was on its way out? Other than the injectors, all the modifications you have listed will work well with the 350. A viable 350 long block can usually be had for a couple hundred bucks. The 350 is often a little lighter than a 305. Fuel mileage should be identical, while power output would not. Parts should be cheaper for the 350. Moreover, the LT1 heads are going to be shrouded badly over the small bore of a 305, and you may even experience valve interference with the bore. You may have to abandon that idea.

very good question. I eventually years down the line am going to build a all aluminum sbc 427. So I would only be spending extra money for a new block and crank at this point. The lt1 heads are going to be smaller combustion chamber and flow way better than the heads on the car now for an extra $200 dollars plus machining. The other reason is no one has this set-up really. No one wants to invest in a 305 because no one has seen a descent 305. It will save me 500 dollars which I can put to something I feel is more usefull. I have it I'll use it that simple. I have seen a few 11 second 305's without power adders in Toledo, and I'll have the nitrous and pistons to handle it. The engine will give me all of the power that I want for the next 3-5 years. My 305 mildly modified has killed and crushed many 350's around, and really is running terrible. That right there doesn't give me much reason to believe it is worth replacing. I t doesn't run right at which is another thing I am going to fix. I test my car on the same length every day and is losing 8 miles per hour since the summer, still hung with an stock lt1. My injectors need to be flow tested and the cam I Believe is worn. I do not need to complicate my project anymore with more money and parts that do not match up to the car perfectly. New engine involves a lot more of my time that I already do not have, and junk yards are cheap out here and I do not feel like bartering and pulling another engine from the junk yard.

A lt1 bore is 4.00" a 305 is 3.736" bore. I am going to do a .060" overbore, making a difference of .204" and .102" per side. The vlaves need to be a 1/8 inch away from the side walls. I need to find the valve placement on the heads. If it interferes then I will be back to square one with a new engine combo, crap I thought I finally had it figured out. Thanks for the reply though Vader I appreciate it because no one can ever seem to help me, and I am always doing something not actually talking about it.
