When do you need to start tuning?
I have been searching around for new ways to setup my intake. My motor is the zz1 and i have a stock 305 tpi on it right now. so, the motor needs more air. I have thought about going to carb, or maybe just a ported tpi. i figured out that the only alternative port efi that would work with my 1204 corvette heads is the miniram, and thats a lot of money i dont have. so basically i am deciding between a ported tpi (or whatever you wanna call it with new runners, ported plenum, etc.) and a carb. What seems like the more reasonable thing to do here, and what kind of money am i looking at (used is ok with me). also where should i go to find a ported tpi setup? thanks a lot.

How about a stealth ram or super ram? The stealth ram will set you back about $500 for the manifold and fuel rails if you buy it all new. Thats half the price of the miniram.

i considered that, but the stealth ram requires a 1205 port on your heads and i have a 1204, and i dont feel like porting my heads.

The miniram has a smaller port than a stealth ram? That doesn't sound right.
Regardless of what intake and heads you use, they will not match perfectly. Some minor porting will be ideal regardless of what route you take.
Have you taken a look at the ports on a stock TPI intake and compared them with the ports on stock TPI heads? On my 416 castings, there were a couple of places where it was off by 1/4 inch.

well the miniram has like 4 different port size options and 1204 is one of them, plus miniram is way too expensive. plus i dont have stock tpi heads. i have aluminum corvette heads, and no i have not checked to see if they match.
