What Did I Break Please Help Me

I think i broke somthin big this time??? i was cruzing all nite no probs, then i go and park at one of the local hangouts for about an hour. my car wont start. i got full power but not the slightest hint of power going to the starter
my starter has one of those relay switchs (supposed to make it harder to steal) i was hitting the button and then i seen a poof of smoke by the starter. i stopped and let it site for about 3 more hrs.
Then i had a friend tap the starter and had jumper cables hooked up to an other car while i turned the key. i seen it smoke again and i'm like thats enough got it towed

the last time we tried it, it made my windows, radio and dash lights stop working. i bought a new starter (lt1) and hooked it up just now put in a new battery and still same **** no power except the dome lights. All the fues's under the dash are good

NOTE: who ever installed this switch on the starter used really small wire that i've seen over heat.

WHAT SHOULD I LOOK FOR!?!? thanks for the help

Check the positive battery cable going from the stater to the battery. I am asuming that its got a hole in it some where and is grounding out to the block exhaust or something like that.

So the starter doesnt engage at all? If thats the case its probably in the starter. What size motor do you have? Cause maybe it is extending but you have a smaller flywheelso it wont engage.

I would recomend taking the dust sheild off and watch the starter as someone turns it over to see what it does.

That really sounds like a fusible link. Check continuity on the hot wires from the battery terminal all the way to the firewall. Something has shorted out for sure.

yea turns out it was a fuesable link off the starter for the accesories. i think i'm gonna run all that directly to the battery.. would this work out alrite??

If you are trying to bypass the fuseable links it's a bad idea, find some fuseable links and sutter them back into place of the orginal. Otherwise you could blow up you're battery or start a fire bypassing. Keep in mind that the reason you fired the fuseable links was because of a short somewhere, you gotta find the short first, it might just be you're starter thats frying the fusealbe lnks

Fuseable links should be at most part stores, just get the correct gauge and lenght or something will fry, they are there for that reason so if a short happens it won't fry up you're wiring or battery or any devices. i'd say like 3-4 inchs and like a 6 gauge but i could be wrong i can't see it.

About the starter not hitting you'll need to be creative as i can't see what it is that it's doing. you might need to put shims in or washers or something to make the correct contact with the fly wheel. if it's not reaching you might have a incorrect starter so you'll need to return it. or match up with you're old starter..

when you replace the fusible link you should use the same gauge and length. deviation from either gauge or length will change the properties of the circuit protection. The length does not have to be EXACTLY the same, but close, not inches longer or shorter.
