You need the EGR to make the engine run right. The timing tables in the ECM are specifically designed to be used with EGR, and when you disable the EGR system you end up with too much timing under part throttle which can cause detonation. Also it will turn on the check engine light.

EGR doesn't really affect performance much anyway, as it's only open under part-throttle acceleration, not at WOT when you're trying to make peak power.

EGR block off plates are commonly used

EGR block off plates are very commonly used in none emission TPI transplants without a problem.

You can make one yourself like I did, or you can buy a nice one at most speed shops for about $20.00, You can do a search for EGR block off plates, and you should be able to find suppliers like S&P etc.

To clean up my engine bay, the smog pump, and A/C was all removed and an EGR block off plated added, I also got rid of that ugle looking intake box and made a nice clean looking set up with just some plasic pipe from Home Depo. The engine light does not come on due to this and no codes are sent to my computer ether. The base time was set correctly and there is no problem there ether.

The engine bay is cleaner, I have more room to work, and all that crap weighs in at around -200 LBS.

Incredibly I had my motor e-tested and the numbers where better with all that stuff gone, possibly because the smog pump and other “E” stuff was all old and half worn out anyway.
