popping thru intake

i just started my car after building a new motor. the specs are:

holley stealth ram, 30 lbs injectors, stock tb, comp cam 503/510 lift, 1.6 rockers, afr 180 heads, 10 to1 comp. the motor is a 383. the problem is that it is popping thru the throttle body. would the tps out of adjustment casue this. what should i be looking for. also my check engine light is not working either so i have to look into that. any ideas. also i am going to go and do some datalogging right now to see what it is doing. does the turner pro show any trouble codes. thanks

sounds like you are running lean. Both times my fuel pump when out my motor was backfireing/popping through the intake. That was with 20psi fp. Check that first and make sure you have adequate pressure.

Is this on a stock tune? 6E?

no its a tune that i got from pcmforless. it is way better than the stock tune that i had. my problem now is datalogging. how do you go about doing that. i have the moates aldl cable and there ostrich unit. do i hook up both of the aldl and ostrich to the laptop than open up tuner pro. once that is open do i need to open up a file in turner pro or do i start the car up and hit the f4 buttom for datalog. i hate this whole thing.

Check your static timing, be sure to disconnect the EST wire when checking and setting the static timing.

When I had a backfire, it was retarded static timing.

Any chance you could be a bit more descriptive? Does it run smooth the pop when you snap the throttle? Does it pop at high RPM's constantly?

My guess if it didn't do it before you built the engine is timing, incorrect firing order or valve adjustment.

the old set up on the 350 was carb. it idles ok for the size of cam thats in it. timming is set a 6 degree where i was told it should be from pcmforless who did the tune for me. the poping has stopped but it falls flat on its face once i get it to upper rpm. kinda like it wants to stall on me. i need to get this datalogging going. any ideas how i can use the moates cable and ostrich with tunerpro.

Dont worry about the ostrich right now. Do you have a laptop and a ALDL cable?

I would hit the Prom board and start reading the tuning bible at the top.

Set up your chip correctly as in the correct injector constant and timing constant.

Then pull roughly 2-3 degrees from the entire timing table. This should give u a safe place to work from.

Then u need to concentrate on getting your fueling to 128 across the board(blm)

The reason your setting high maf codes and its sneezing thru the intake is all about the tuning.

Wrong airflow at x rpm and whammo. If its tuned and adjusted accordingly this will not happen.(provided mechanical/electrical are good)

Same scenario for your intake sneeze/backfire. More than likely an AE issue but could be a huge lean spot just from all the changes you have done.

later

Sorry smoke but my cookies were set to delete and i didnt know so i wasnt getting the recent post in my user cp.

Im not mistaking you for dumb but lets start from scratch.

1) Do you have the data wire connected to (M) terminal on your ALDL?

2) Do you have 12v+ and a (-) ground?

Your ALDL Interface
