release fuel pressure

If I release the fuel pressure on my TPI by pressing the valve down won't it shoot gas all over. I want to replace fuel filter. What would you do?

Best way is to take the gas cap off to relieve some pressure. Then just put a bucket under the car and work fast. I can do it in like 2-3 min.

pressure

Yep, I just dove under there and removed the filter, and let the pressure bleed off there as I loosened the nut, no big deal. Gas in the arm pit feels pretty good too just turn your head so you don't get any in the face. Larry.

The easiest way to relieve fuel pressure is to pull the fuel pump fuse and then start the engine. It will run until 90% of the pressure is gone, then it will stall. You'll get a dribble when you loosen the filter but it won't spray in your eyes.

yes, pull the fuse and the gas cap, and let it run till it dies, then try starting it up a couple of times, and your good to go. just remeber to use flare nut wrenches($7 about at harbor feight) and put lots of anti-sieze and the threads and about a 1/2inch after the threads on the pipe itself.

by the way i tried taking off the cap on the fuel rail and the thing was seized, anyone know where to get a replacement cap and valve?

and for the orignal Q no it shouldnt shoot everywhere, just make sure you leave the engine sit for a couple of minutes, chances are your injectors are old and leaky and that should bleed most of the pressure off

have fun!
