How Ya guys doin' I need some help I put a 89 tpi motor and harness and mated it up with 89 tbi dash. I am having more problems than a dumb *** in algebra class. My secondary fan is constantly running and I do not have any ALDL data from the scanner.

I went through the Helms manual and checked the ABC and D termaninals on the computer with an ohm meter and got some scary results. If there is a electical *** out there who can help I would appreciate it. If not I think i am going to purchace the stand alone wiring harness from painless.

This is my first post on this web site and I would appreciate if you guys gave me a little help PLEASE. Its a sweet rebuilt, powdercoated, ceramisized, high pro small block rusting away. Its a nice paper wieght right now. I read a lot of the posts and you guys sound very intelligent and knowlegable.

Well, there's a little more to it than a dash. The dash really has no control over anything the ECU does.

Can you tell a little more about the problems and symptoms? I'll assume you're cranking and cranking with no start. Or are the only problems with the secondary fan and ALDL datastream? Have you connected the check engine light? Sounds like a PROM error, but heck, could be a lot of things. I guess before you report back, check the wire harness grounds and make sure it's not grounding through powdercoat. Do you even get spark? Does the fuel pump turn on at key on? Have you checked fuel pressure? Are you configuring your scanner to read the make and model of the computer that you swapped in?

Also, tell a little about which year and type of TPI you've installed.

The preasure is fine and the computer is new. The engine is a Maf 89 tune port with a remote coil. it is turning over and it is firing- injector pulse and spark. I put a ohm meter to the computer and looked the measurements up in the helms manual and their were about 5 terminals that had the wrong voltage. I think the aldl data problem has to do with terminal a-2 the fan d-11. Please do not take this the wrong way but have you ever done something like this before or are you trying to bust my *****!! If that is offensive I am from Chi-town and we say what we mean and mean what we say. Besides that thanks for the advise. I have been talking to tpi wiring companies all day and they say that the dash wiring does matter. If you dont have any sugestions to the swap of a 89 tbi dash to meet up with a 89 tpi motor thats ok but do not bust my *****. I defended my country for years as a SEABEE so you can pound pavement in that sweet 3rd geny. If you just did not read my artical good enough or you are in a bad mood My bad. I'm a fuel injection engineer. I do EFI calibration, design, and debugging EFI software and hardware for a living. I'm in China calibrating for an OEM project.

Not busting your *****, just had NO information in the post to go on (couldn't even tell what the real problem was other than scary results and a fan). You say dash. You must mean the chassis harness. Did you do anything to disable VATS in the 89 computer? VATS is the anti theft device. That's a common problem on swaps.

If you have a check engine light wired up, you can tell if the computer even thinks it's ok. At key on (engine off), what does it do? If it's flickering, the ECU has a prom error, and the fan will come on. Open the little cover on the Computer and check if the Memcal is installed correctly. While you're there, write down the 4 letter code on the chip inside (maybe they gave you the wrong one).

Chill out a little, and take it easy. Cover the basics first. I'll forgive your attitude this time, but I didn't think my reply sounded too out of line.

I am not upset with you really I just dont want to admit defeat and order a new harness. I bypassed the starter relay and put in a Vats eliminator module I have spark and pulse . The SES is working fine but the I am not geting serial data through the scanner.
