New to TPI
Hi guys, I am relatively new to the tpi game, i just aquired a
1983 chevy c-10 with what i believe to be a 1986 f-motor.
As far as i can tell the only mod is a hypertech chip and cold air intake. It runs very well, however at times when it is cold it flat will not idle, it tries to run at about 200 rpm and then will surge to about 600 or die, anyone got any ideas, the only code i was able to pull was a 33, not sure when it set though as the check engine light never has come on for me. I will check out more in depth at the shop with TECH 1, however i wanted to check and see if anyone had a clue as to what my ailment may be. Also, i have been reading about people burning thier own PROMs and
am interested in getting into this as i have this truck now and my buddy has a 91 camaro with the b4c package that he has installed a pretty hot 355 in and has since had some fuel and timing related issues. Thanks in advance,
TRAVIS

Welcome Aboard!
It would help substantially to know whether it is an '86 engine, since it differs significantly from an '85. The control was shanged drastically in 1986.
If it is the later version, and the ECM has a '33', the first place to check is the TPs adjustment.

It is in fact an 86 model engine. I cleared the 33 and it has not reset. I did however clean the MAF resistors and it seemed to help with cold starts, i still tries to die, but if i rap the throttle once or twice it will usually idle, whereas before it wouldn't idle until it was warmed up. I will check tps adjustment this afternoon
it needs to be set at .54V at idle, correct? thanks for the help.

Once she's warm she runs great, haven't cleaned iac yet, just got done adjusting tps, found it set at .12V closed, way low.
adjusted tps and seems a little better, still have to hit throttle once to get to idle, set min. air, but i think iac is sticky. that's next on list of things to do. Can't say enough how much i love that TPI though, the torque is unbelievable. It's a little too much fun i think. I am about to start a 350 build up, a buddy of mine gave me a late model truck long block, just trying to figure out what i should stuff it with and what heads to put on it. I am looking at either vortec heads or the duttwieler trick flows. I just can't decide, it will probably come down to the duttwielers, since if i build an engine, i can't see spending any more money on a set of factory style heads. sorry for the long post. thanks.

Just wait until you decide (and you will) to go with the Holley Stealth Ram for you're 350... hehe, and you think she pulls hard now.
