MSD setup for 350 TPI
what does anyone know about an MSD setup for a 350 TPI what type of box and coil and all that would i need, i plan to do extensive mods such as port and polish and siamese the intake, runners and plenum and have been told when you start to get more air in the Comb. chamber you need to get more spark and more fuel via an Adj fuel pressure reg. which i have installed now, so i next plan to get an MSD system, what do you guys think?
thanks

Get a new intake, heads cam and compression then start looking into the MSD setup. Port and polish the intake is very minor mods and you wouldnt know the differance. I would spend the money elsewhere.

I found that with my old full MSD set up (dizzy, coil, 6AL, wires) I could log a run or drive and find notable differences in the readings. That was the plus. The downside (if you can call it that) was that I never "felt" or "heard" a difference in acceleration, idle quality or gas mileage. But if you had old stuff, it would make a difference. If you have the electronic dizzy you do not need a MSD dizzy. Just get coil, plugs and wires. A person only needs a 6AL for the rev limiter really. MSD uses a lot of hype to back up the hundreds of dollars it takes to buy a "complete" set up.

I run a Msd 6AL box with the GM adapter for the wiring 8.5mm wires and Msd coil. Now this could all be in my head but at the track I could see slight differences between running the Box and just plugging in my regular harness. Nothin huge but every hundreth of a sec counts right

6AL boxes are really useless for anything but the rev limiter and increasing mpg while cruising. It only gives you multiple sparks before 2,000 RPM.

You can wire it up either way. The new instructions they gave me with my rebuilt digital 6+ are quite a bit different from the old ones but are much easier to follow. I'm not sure if they've revised the instructions for the 6AL's and 6A's yet, but its not all that hard to wire up. Just take your time and double check everything.
If you don't want the headache, spend $25 and buy the harness for a gm dual connector coil. It took me longer to wire up the power leads and mount the thing then it did to wire it to the coil.

I would use a stock replacement cap and rotor as long as the dist. is not worn. You can pull it and feel for play. If its a sound piece its no reason to toss it for a $300 piece that will do the same thing. My advise would be get a 6AL or digital 6, coil, and 8.5mm wires. I also use accel plugs but that is personal pref.

make sure u replace your spark plug wires or ur MSD will actually make your car run bad. You must use spiral core wires. The wires that come stock on a car are solid core wires. Very important you know this. Also, i noticed a difference in the top end. Felt like it was burnign more fuel at the higher rpms.

100.00 dollars i bet u run an amp??? You must run your patch cables on opposite side of power cable that runs to your amp. Power wire up drivers side and patch cables run up passenger side. That noise is all about shielding. Either spend really good money: 60-90 dollars on patch cables or run patch cables on opposite side. If you still get interference, which i dont see how after that, let me know and let me think. Tell me your audio set-up and let me know.
