Fuel Pump Bleed of TOO FAST

As an on going problem with my fuel pump i have another question for everyone.

When i cut the car on and crank it im getting an erratic 10-22psi fuel pressure fluctuating. But when i cut the car of MOST of the time the pressure is bleeding off in a matter of seconds. But then somtimes the pressure will bleed of from 18psi to 0psi within a minute or 2. Is the problem my fuel pump or could there be something else keeping my pressure from building up to where its suppose to be?

I have read a few post/reply from Vader and it got me thinking.

You will prob be replacing the fuel pump soon. The pumps check valve is bad, that why its not holding pressure, or regulator is leaking or possibly injector leaking also.

Would a leaky injector or regulator keep the pressure from building? Im fixing to take the sending fuel line and put the pressure regulator on there using a homeade connector and a replacement shrader valve to see if my injectors or regulator is keeping the pressure from building. The pump is only 1 year old so i want to change the pump last.

If it was an injector or two, you would typically have hard start problems. From it dripping fuel into the cylinders when the car is not running.

I know this first hand

Is the smoke black? When it does finally start, does it fire right up? Or does it stumble/choke around for a few seconds?

Stumble, choke, cough, spit, **** and whatever else. Sometimes itl'll sit there and "lope" like it has a hell of a cam. Sometimes itll sit there and lope the same way when i crank it at operating temps 180*, after it has been sitting for a few.

I pray thats it.

Im fixing to take the sending fuel line and put the pressure regulator on there using a homeade connector and a replacement shrader valve to see if my injectors or regulator is keeping the pressure from building.
I meant im fixing to hook the *Fuel Pressure Gauge* up directly to the sending fuel line using some type of homemade connection.

Im fixing to do that right now. Ill post back here in a few hours.

thanks

That sure sounds to me like fuel is leaking into the engine. Those are the same symptoms I had. Check for leaky injectors, or a bad fuel pressue regulator.

Thanks for all the help IROQ5.7 but i guess its my fuel pump and there is no way around it. Here is what i made to hook up my Fuel Pressure Gauge to my rubber sending line.
