aftermarket air runners with 383??

Putting a 383 together and while i know i need larger injectors and a new map sensor i was wondering about the air runners.

Are there aftermarket ones and if so do i really need them??

This is not a race motor, just a bigger cubic inch one.

ummm yes, yes and yes and yes :-)

All factpry TPI components were designed for a 305 application. The 350 is starting to push it(stockwise) and a 383 will be restrsicted with them, albeit, it should be a torque monster justt seriously choked on the top end.

I'm assuming by "air" runners u mean the factory style tpi runners?

Do a search under TPI and runners and aftermarket and you should get several hundred posts on the very information that you seek.

Should be track comparisons, dyno comparisons and some actual flow data from stock and aftermakret runners and intakes as well

happy searching

Thanks for the info Jeremy!

I was also wondering if my stock tpi intake would be good enough for this 383 once i install the bigger injectors and aftermarket tpi runners. I know i will have alot more torque but not in need of a high rpm intake---right??

As someone who has done this, the factory runners just won't cut it. I thought long and hard, even picked some up, about the larger tube runners. If you don't plan to rev over 5000 RPM, those should work pretty darn good for you if you port the plenum a bit as well. Keeping in mind the old saying "Torque is King on the Street", it should be loads of fun to drive. The Stealth Ram and LT1 conversions can breath and rev a lot higher, but a lot of motors aren't built for much higher revolutions, and they do lose some torque in the lower RPMs. Regardless, you'll need an upgraded and/or ported intake manifold or you'll have just moved where your restriction is.

Personally, I went with a SuperRam with some porting for mine (runners, plenum, and lower intake). But they're a lot more expensive than the other choices. Worth it in my mind, but just not possible for everyone for one reason or another.

Your Mileage May Vary, of course!
