Turbo/HSR cam??

i have 3 cams to pick from.

stock 95 LT1
Hot cam
XE224/230

after i get the motor finished up and in the car, ill be putting a turbo on the car.

heres the setup:
GMPP L98 short block
AFR 195's w/ 68cc
HSR w/ adj FPR
Comp ProMag 1.6s
ARP head studs
t56 w/ twin disk and 3.42s

which of the 3 cams would be the best for this setup

i would run the xe 224/230 cuz its a great cam for that combo, and for a turbo, that cam will help bleed off the exhaust pressure from the boost. its good to have some degree of split from intake to exhaust on the cam for boosted car as far as my understanding goes.

hot cam aint too bad either but little small i would say. alot of people love stock profiled cams for boost, but alot say go bigger on the cam as well. so, i would go bigger and run less boost on that cam, rather than a smaller cam and run more boost. even tho the difference might only mean a few horsepower.

I don't know about the other one but hotcam is definately not a good choice. You want a cam with very little overlap for a turbo application. Stock Lt1, and hotcam are too small anyways. Look for a cam that's specifically designed for boost, or has very little overlap.

If you can afford AFR's you can afford a custom turbo grind. From what I've seen you want a single pattern cam with a larger LSA, like 224/224 or 218/218 on 114 LSA. Blower and turbo are going to want a different cam, Orr89RocZ.

For right now I'd do the xe224/230 cam, its a much better cam for your current combo. If your doing the turbo right away my vote is none of the above, unless you only looking for the lower output turbo setup.

why not get a zz4 short block? 4 bolt main instead of 2.

i have heard going both ways. depends on head flow too and how much your exhaust port flows. AFR's are pretty decent so maybe a good single pattern would be best, maybe a grind with more duration on intake side than exhaust. i have seen them work well too. your right on the LSA tho, i should have mentioned that, cuz comp cams will make you same cam on a wider LSA for same price so i have heard...

Go to a turbo board for a cam recomendation.
Or get a custom grind. Cammotion seems to have a good handle on turbo cams. You can get a rec online.
They told me a 221/217 @ .050 for a 6500 rpm 355 and 15psi.
So as you can see the above recs are already too big.
As an example, there is a guy with a 218/218 1.6 rr xe hr in an LT1 making 850hp to the tires at 19psi.
Turbos are a completely different animal. And most of the stuff in the above posts are complete BS. Do your research. You'll come out a lot happier in the end and it will be cheaper.

For your short block, a stock cam is sufficient.
You do not want to rpm it. You should be "ok" to at most 550fhp.
Which is easy with your listed combo and 10-12psi.
Really should get a 4blt minimum.
You need to decide first on how much power you really want.
Include your drive train in the budget as 700 hp is only a screw driver away on a turbo motor provided the turbo & fuel is there.
More is easy with just some parts swapping. They say boost is like crack so plan a head.
Really shoud go all forged or be real conservative in your hp goal.

e-mail me if you want some links.
