Did it ping before you put the chip in ??? Keep your foot out of it until you correct the problem...Unless you want to destroy your new motor. damage pistons,. blow head gaskets etc etc..

Send the chip back...get your money back if you can.. try the search feature on the top of the page and type in burn your own chip or prom you can do them your self for about the same cost.

where did you get 48 degrees total from.. most stock tpi's advance from 22 to 24 degrees with 6 being the base..
So a low 30's should put you were you need to be..

Factory base timing is 6 degree's..
You might want to bring your base timng down until it effects your idle and see if it helps any.
Or send your guy your chip back to reburn it.

Sounds like ARAP timing tables. I run roughly 25 degrees total timing on the same compression with stock iron heads (19 degrees in the tables from 2400rpm up plus 6 degrees base timing with all SA set at zero) Put the stock chip back in or don't use the car. Your ECM can probably only retard 15 degrees maximum which still puts timing at 33 degrees and now the ECM can't reduce it anymore. If you can hear audible pinging thats not good.
Regardless you need a proper chip burned. I would not let the same guy that did the first one do this next one either
On a sidenote what heads are you running and which plugs( heatrange) do you run?

Wow thats a lot of timing, I end up with 34 total in by 2500, 36 total in by 3500 on my current chip (this includes the 6 btdc base timing). I wouldn't want any more than this
