Does a heat shield really do that much???

Any body here take their heatshield off the hood? mines beat up and i think it would look better without one. so is there anything special it's used for besides over heating the hood?

You mean the hood insulation? Yes, it helps keep the hood cool and saves your paint from excess heat. I used "The Hood Liner" from dynamat and even here in GA in the summer the hood stays cool and the engine runs cool too.

Two stories on the hood insulation:

1. In the event of an engine fire, those rubber plugs are supposed to melt, dropping the insulation on to the engine and (hopefully) smothering the fire;

2) The foregoing is a bunch of nonsense.

Take your pick.

Replacements are available from the dealer and they aren't expensive (around $30, IIRC).
