For me, the best tippers have always been people who fell very comfortable around me in the car.

Be on time, be polite, (open that champagne!), drive smoothly, and by all means know where you are going ahead of time and how to get there.

The only celebrity who ever tipped me was Barry Williams (Greg from the Brady Bunch).

He was easily the nicest, most down to earth celebrity (if he is still considered a celeb) I've ever met.

I drove him to an from the premier of Dickey Roberts Former Child Star, in which he had a cameo appearance.

Thank you for continuing to update as in this thread. I'm willing to wait for something that fits and doesn't have to be hacked or modded just to get a sub par fit.

I won't mention any names, but a certain vendor that produced an intake in the LSX market rushed their offering to the shelves. And, it shows. They have intake to head sealing issues they won't address, issues with the MAP sensor mounting, etc. It's a pile of crap, and I feel bad for anyone that purchased one prematurely. (I'm sure you know who I am speaking of.)

I am hoping when the time comes, there will be dyno graphs with air fuel data included. And mention if there was any tuning done, etc.

What baffles me about it, I still see them for sale on that vendor's web site - and on some other vendor sites! A good friend of mine bought one for his 99' SS, let's just say it's collecting dust on a shelf next to his stock camshaft.

Looks almost like a Alfa Romeo intake or something Italian.

As long as it can produce the numbers.... then its worth it. I think it will be far more popular with TPI swappers than anything else.

Truly, its only us who still use TPI. With the arrival of the LSX series, there aren't any new factory equipped GM TPI set ups that have been offered on vehicles since 1992.

This is the longest R&D ever. I was thinking about one... nah, I am going to do an LS1 swap.... anyone need a TPI motor or T56? New products are taking too long for our cars, and too little support for what there is out there.. I found an LS1 w/tranny and am going to buy it. Thanks for being there BBK, but some of us have been waiting too long....

I wonder how long the Super Ram took to come out. Or the MiniRam. I bet they were just as long.

I do know the Scoggin Dickey Vortec TPI intake took more than two years, because my dad was on the waiting list for one. And the Stealth Ram took a while too.

Not only does the manufacturer have to research, design, prototype, and build the intake, they also have to make sure that we idiots arent going to screw up something with it and try to sue them. These things take time.

Not to mention the emissions compatibility factor. This alone requires extensive testing, as well as a lot of $$$$ on BBK's part to get it approved. I remember one of my buddies over at Holley telling me that the reason why the HSR doesn't come EGR equipped, was because Holley simply didn't want to pay that much money to get the damn thing approved, so they branded it off road and still surpassed their sales goal....

But BBK has not been doing R&D for 4 years on this---like some people above think.

They had an idea a few years ago and it stayed an idea--got pushed to the back burner and as of late they have been going full steam to get this designed and into production.

So don't assume they have been working on for years and years..

im not sure what you mean by "Lack of tuning ability on the TPI". the 165 & 7730 ECMS are quite tune able.

not everyone wants to go with a LSx because of the time & money involved in the swap, and from my understanding some people can't go with a LSx because of the emissions regulations in their state. this BBK intake would be a good alternative for them.
i am thinking about going with a LSx in my Monte SS, but not if i have to use a OBD2 PCM.

might as well just save the 400 and use it as part of the down payment for 2010 camaro its already been 4 years and our cars are any where from 16 to 25 years old, you think they would have figured it out a long time ago.

You guys obviously have no idea what is required to develop something like this for production. My experience with all the other emissions legal intakes for TPI so far is that they were rushed into production and all have MAJOR fitment and/or performance issues. Give 'em a break, nobody else would bother with our cars.

how come bbk never made a cold air intake for our cars. it would be easy and fast to get out. and it would actually sell. they make one for every other gd car out there??????????????????????

Our TPI cars already come with a cold air intake. The Camaro one goes over the radiator and gets cold air from behind the fog lights. And the Trans Ams have a cold air system that gets air from the fender. There isnt much to gain by replacing either system.

Heres a vaild question that I dont think has been asked.

Does the runner design prevent the use of a base other than BBK's? I am running LTR, but would hate to have to buy another base. (currently TPIS B/M)

If it is compatable with "traditional" style base manifolds, will it be offered in peices or as a runner/plenum setup similar to how superram components were available?

My guess from the pictures floating around is that the base is not compatible with previous aftermarket TPI runners. If you go this route its BBK plenum, runners, and manifold or bust.

Right. The way the runners attach to the intake manifold base is different from anyone else. So BBK parts all the way.

I don't have any of the personal experience that TA is talking about, but I still agree with him based on what I have read here at TGO, and... well... everywhere. Too many people seem to want things done immediately. You praise BBK for the idea they have and then criticize them when they try to implement it. All good things come with time. Just slow down for a second and be happy they are even trying to help us.

Cant beat? Or did you mean can? Of course not, no matter what you do, there is always someone faster. However, I did my swap in the course of a couple of weeks, and now have greater support from the after market. There is also so much more bang for the buck and tuning is alot easier with the OBDII. I think it came along nicely, check it out...

You got a complete LS1 engine with accessories and an OBDII and wiring harness and it was a direct bolt in all for only $399.99?

Not trying to be an A$$ but if that is the case then yes you will get more bang for the buck, if not you have just compared two completely different things.

BTW, it does look pretty bad A$$.

June 2008 Super Chevy magazine, page 22, "BBK Performance Parts has done it again. It is set to release its new SSI intake manifold for Tuned Port Injection cars." The article mentions 1 3/4" diam. and 14-inch runners and a few other things, but no mention of when it will be actually on-sale.

I went to Kestone Automotives trade show here in Atl and BBK had this intake on display. The guys didnt know much though. I also looked inmy '08 catalog and there is a part number for it. It seems to be getting closer.

Looks like they are making progress on it. The diameter of the runners will make it larger than anything out there outside of the First Injection intake system. Should be a good performer.

Hey Bradlyj8Z28 you will need to get some mods on that LS1 swap if you want to keep up with the SoCal TPI cars.

Did i hear 1.70 inch runners? If so, that should really flow well enough to make great numbers. 350whp is not out of the question for most 355 setups and should run very strong

Yes, depending on what they do with the intake manifold itself 350rwhp is not out of the question with say the new AFR heads and the supporting mods.
