custom TPI on 1969 327 - Max rpms for power band?
Hi guys, I have a custom 77 Camaro (see sig pic) with a rebuilt 1969 327, KB flat tops, 2.02/1.7 double hump fuelie heads, 4 speed, 3.73s. In the past couple weeks I have purchased everything necessary to do a TPI conversion, including all the TPI manifold parts, sensors, ecm, adj. regulator, aftermarket inline EFI pump and return lines, Painless TPI swap wiring harness, 24 lb svo injectors, custom programed EPROM, electric fan, etc. My 327 has an unknown flat tappet hydraulic cam, its in the 480/480 gross valve lift, 300 adv. duration range. W/22 btdc base timing, 36 total, it idles mildly rough and peaks around 5500 rpms (I shift around 5800-6000 through the 1/4). With the stock throttle body, the screens removed on the MAF and non-muffled intake plumbing, what is going to be the useful upper rpm limit for the TPI? The best I have run with a 600 DP holley on the 327 is 14.4@98.5 mph through the 1/4 with an awful 2.45 60 ft. I'm hoping that the TPI will be at least as fast (it better be after all this money I spent!). I have the EPROM set up so that the engine is going to idle around 20 degrees btdc, 34 total in by 2500, 36 total in by 3500. I definitely can get away with this much timing without any detonation, and the high initial timing allows the car to idle smooth enough at 700 rpms, but do any of you guys think I have too much initial timing pulled in for an FI setup (considering I have a flat tappet cam setup for midrange power).
