AFR 195 Comps Vs. WP S/R Torqer 305's...

Ok my top end is in pieces and I need a set of heads fast because I don't want to tear it down again anytime soon. I had found a set of AFR 190's on eBay but they are for older carb intakes not TPI. I need them for my 305 so they must have 1.940 intake and 1.550 exhaust valves and I'm looking for a 9.0-.5 compression ratio because I'll be running boost in just a few months. If I get a little one the high side I'll compensate with new pistons when I do my bottom end next year.

Anyway I can't seem to find a set of used AFR's and I can't wait until they make them so I was going to buy a set of World Product S/R Torqer 305's.

I know of course the AFR's are better but can the S/R's be beat for that price? I'd pay a little more but only if it's worth it or it's for AFR's.

Should I just wait til AFR can make them or until I can find a used set or just go ahead and get the S/R Torqers now?

Well crap! I just called AFR and they can't even make me a set of heads for a 305 in any type

So I guess I hope that someone has a set for sale or I buy the S/R Torqers.

[b]EDIT:]/b] I just called PAW, they are cheaper than Summit, and they said they are emissions legal, do have the correct angle plugs and will work with the TPI intake as long as I use the P/N for the later model heads they offer.

Anyone want to talk me out of this before I order??? Can I use the AFR Hydra-Rev kit on these?

Final specs:

$739 P/N 042750-2
S/R Torqer 305, 87-Up Intake
58cc, 1.940/1.500 11/32 .600" max lift
Springs: 1.437" Dual 125# seat

Will these heads be find out of the box with my ZZ4 cam or do I need better springs? My lift is .510 but I'll be revving to as much as 6K and I don't want float.

Does anyone have any cam suggestions maybe? My ZZ4 looks tiny using these heads Keep in mind I need to pass CA emissions and it needs to work with no mods to the heads other than maybe springs...

Alright new post, I'm going to hijack my own post now by going off on cams...

I just called CompCams and they suggested the XR269HR with the following specs:

218/224, 495/503, 114

Told him I'd be running boost and he suggested of course the 114 over the 112 which I knew going into it. Same cost and only another 2 days to get.

I plugges it into Dyno2003 and got 9HP more but lost 9FT/LB's. Doesn't really seem worth $250, another $100 more than the ZZ4. Also though do you think the 114 would benifit me over the 112 when running boost to make it worth it?

I'm thinking maybe the XR305HR with the 220/230, 510/510, 114. It gains me 24HP but moves my peak from 5500 to 6000 and I loose 24FT/LB's but moves my peak from 3000 to 3500. I like having both of those peaks higher like that. This one seems more worth it than the 269. Running N/A between the 2 my HP stays the same but my TQ goes up by 2FT/LB's with the 269 over the 305.

I just don't know what to do Would one be more emissions friendly over the other?

I'm confused here, in your mods list it shows AFR 190's, but your here asking which head/cam setup to run. You want to restrict the mods to stuff that can be undone in the future if you want to do a resto with it, but you want to do a C4 rearend? The only ones I've seen require extensive mods and it would NOT be easily undone at all. I'm getting REALLY mixed signals here....

Anyway IMO if your going to do the shortblock later throw whatever heads you can on the car to keep it running for a while, built a 350 or 383 (not your 305, but do keep it if you'd want to go numbers matching later) and get heads to match that setup.

The sportsmans might be about right with compression if you run them with a .040 gasket with stock pistons. You might look into ported zz4/aluminum L98 heads. A small port, aluminum, (so you can run more boost) small chamber and better flow than stock ported out. Even fully worked with larger valves they should still be 305 friendly.

The 218/224 on 114 would be good for a blown 305, but if your going custom ground you might as well go with a 218/227 on 114 for some extra exhaust duration to get all that extra air out. The other cam would probably be fine as well. 218 already seems on the big end for a blown 305 but an extra 2 degrees probably won't be noticeable. If you build a 350 i'd say someting like 224/233 on 114. Either of these cams should be better than the zz4, Also any of these cams would probably want to see more RPM's than a LTR setup would provide with the blower, just something to keep in mind. Keep in mind I've never built a blown car so take it with a grain of salt... Just thought I'd share my opinion, since no one else has.

I added the 190's to my list yesterday when I had a lead on a set, I just haven't deleted them from the list today. Actually if you really dig into the C4 IRS thing the mods really aren't that extensive and if I did it this mod would be way down the road, like 2 or 3 years. With the #'s the ProCharger will make I need to stay sold rear anyway.

First off, I plan on keeping my 305 so all the parts I'll be buying will be keepers. When I do my bottom end next year I'm going to splay the main caps, add a Cola 4340 crank, JE pistons, etc.

I've decided I will 99% be getting the S/R Torqer 305's.

I really like the 220/230, 510/510, 114 but I'm thinking the intake lift may be a little high for a 305 TPI motor, other than that it may be the cam I go with...
