I recently replaced my starter on my 1991 305 tpi. The one that was in the car was dying (I think). When you turned the key, you could hear the solenoid "clink" and a few second later the starter would turn, although slower than usual. It only acted up sporatically. I had the same problem years ago on another 1991 Z28 305. The starter suddenly dropped dead. I replaced it with no other problem.
This time, I replaced the starter on this car. ( Had to return the first on due to the return spring not pulling the bendix totally back from the flywheel.) Any way, I have noticed the same occasional pause again lately.
Is there another common problem that could cause this pause?
Ignition switch? Neutral safety switch (700r4)??
I buy all my part where I used to work. Not the cheap replacement part stores. I would not think that I got another bad starter. We hardly ever had any come back.
