Cam suggestions for 383 TPI

I am building a 383 for my 87 Iroc, this is the first engine i have built and was wondering what the best cam would be for this engine? the heads are stock GM iron 350 heads that have been ported and polished and had 2.02 intake and 1.60 exhaust valves and will have 1.6 ratio roller rockers. i am going to be running the stock 87 Tuned Port setup and a set of flowtech headers. the car will also be getting a 6 speed probably this fall, but for now i will be running the stock t-5 Thanks

What compression/tq convertor are you going to run?

Are you doing any chip burning?

Staying LTR?

Street cruizer or street/strip, or just want a bumpy cam so you can sell it

I don't know the compression as the motor is still at the machine shop/ it's a stick it won't have a torque converter

yes

Staying LTR?
Leaving the TPI assembly completely stock but adding 24# injectors and a adjustable fuel pressure regulator.

Street cruizer or street/strip, or just want a bumpy cam so you can sell it My Formula is a auto-x/road racer so tteh Iroc is going to be a straight line 1/4 mile racer. but will see plenty of street duty as well

With the stock TPI your engine will be completely out of breath by 5000 RPM. So I would choose a cam with high lift and is good to 5000RPM. Your 1.6 rockers will help with the high lift. Now if you modified your TPI or went to another intake system that would be a different story on cam selection. GM makes a decent cam with intake around 214 and exhaust 224 or so duration at .050". This might be what you are looking for with your set up. GM# is 1230845 for that cam as I just looked it up. You could go to the Hot Cam but I'am not sure it would do you any good. You will have a torque monster. Allen

the zz4 goes great with tpi setups.

10185071 208/221 .474/.510 .510/.544 112deg

.510/.544 should work nicely in a 383 topped with a tpi setup. you should port that stock tpi setup as much as you can because it's really going to hurt your upper rpm power.

i'm actually selling a zz4 cam right now, I only removed it because I switched from stock tpi to a stealthram and the lt4 hotcam is a much better match for the stealthram.

let me know if you're interested
