Stock FPR problmes...sort of
Ok, I just got my Holley AFPR in the mail, so I grabbed my fuel rails and was about to start taking out the torx screws when I see that there is a little "nipple" if you will that sits in the middle of the opening that prevents me from removing them.
I look at the directions, and there they talk about a T-10 tamperproof torx bit as one of the tools I will need.
Anyone know where to pick up a set? The idea of finding a "tamperproof" torx bit sounds like I will be on a wild goose chase, but JIC, does anyone know where I can get one or how did anyone else get thoes screws out.
thank you.

I believe you can get the required tool at most auto parts stores.
I used a punch to knock down the "nipple". Then I use a regular torx bit type screw driver.
I also used some needle nose type vice grips. Probably much easier to find the appropriate tool, though.
EDIT: How is your project coming along?

Project is finaly coming along actualy, thanks for asking. I have just about all the major parts in. I need to get a couple of little things ie antifreeze, oil, couple of sensors, wp gaskets but everything should FINALY be done by next week... Ill try to fix my digi cam and take some shots.
as for the afpr, I did a search(duh) and found that someone sells it. I work at sears, and Craftsman didnt have one. I need to look again today, or go somewhere else.

ah, found it today at work. It was in the wood working section.
I put her on, and man, that holley unit looks good!
I also have a Accell fpg mounted to the rails. I hope that it clears the plenum.
I will update my whole car sometime this week.

What ultimately did you end up doing to the 081 heads?
Also, what have, or, are you doing for the prom?
I think those are some good, solid mods for a 305. I would like to see how it turns out. Any plans for intake upgrades ot torque converter?

As for Prom, the PROMinator looks to be my best bet. I have the laptop with OBDI and II software out the wazzoo. I will do that as time comes. Hopefuly the car will accept the zz4 and not make too much of a fuss. I also got the hypertec fan switch, the 180 one I belive. I start my build up tonight, and into tuesday and wednesday. I have to fix some things, such as get some more coolant, some sensors, new plugs, oil change, and some ATF. Also, coated Hedman headers(coated) with ypipe. All the rest is in the sig I belive. I hope to have the PROMinator in my car by the end of summer.

I put my Holley APFR on in April and I ran into the same problems you did. I didn't have the Tamperproof Torx Screw bit or all the wrenches I needed. I ended up making about half a dozen trips to Canadian Tire and Parts Source to get what I needed. That was a fun weekend. I played around with the FP and I found that 48 psi works best for my car. I plan on taking my car to a track in Gimli, Manitoba (much lower elevation) next month so I think I should be able to pull off a 15.1x with my current mods. I hope to get a Prominator chip next year as well. Are you still going with the LT1 intake? Looking forward to seeing those timeslips.

No, Im sticking with the TPI intake for now. Ive run into some problems with putting my car back together, but I hope its just minor, so Im trying to work through that. Right now, I have kind of just chilled working on my car. It seems that I keep running into problems, and its killing morale.
