I need help picking heads!!!!
Well, obviously I would get AFR's reccomended over most any other head. But I'm kinda looking for good power with a cheap price tag. I've been looking at:
World Products Sportsman 2 but I noticed they are Cast Iron. cheap though.
Dart pro 1 200cc 64cc angle plug heads
I've heard Trick flows are good, but I don't know which ones.
What about Pro Toplines?? I don't know much about them.
I would like to get AFR's but I've hear quality issues about them.
Brodix would be nice, but too pricy.
I don't really know what ones to get. Right now I'm set on Vette L98 heads and get some porting done. Unless I can get set on another alternative. and not have to sell my arm and my leg to get them. I can get the vette heads for 300 and pay 185 to get them ported. I know not as good as aftermarket. But I just would like some help
Thanks
Tyler

I just bought the Trick Flows for my 1989 Trans Am with the 350 TPI. They flow about 250CFM at .500 lift. This is about the same as the AFR's. They are real nice heads. Bought the ones with the 64cc chambers. I'am installing flat top pistons and shooting for 10.5:1 compression ratio. By the way the cost was $1,184.90 including shipping from Summit.

I have been eyeballing those Trickflows. Btw I'm just looking for an everyday street head and do some racing now and then. But i'm looking to have plenty of power in reserve. I have comps XE268, speed pro forged flat tops. and I'm also in the mood for HSR. so what heads would be good with that?????

any of those heads you mentioned would be good. the sportsman II heads also come in an aluminum version. Check out their site. don't listen to just one person when it comes to heads. i've heard bad stuff about every head you just listed... trickflows are poor qc, pro toplines don't flow what they list... yadda yadda yadda
if you want something cheap with good power just buy some good iron heads with 2.02/1.60 valves and you're ready to go.
I personally have a set of hogged out 113 casting aluminum vette heads as you mentioned. They've been ported and polished to the limit, have a 3 angle valve job, backcut 30 degree for better flow and are equipped with manley stainless steel race valves that were machined in.
it really just depends on how much you want to spend.

Well I've been told that if I put the money in to 113 heads, I may as well buy aftermarket. I've herd and seen alot of good things about trickflows. What is bad quality about them?? I don't want cast iron as much, i wanna save weight. And I just like aluminum....

it will be hard to get good aluminum heads cheap unless you buy them used...
the 113 heads aren't that bad and not all that pricey, if you get them done like mine are you're looking at about the same as brand new aftermarket but you don't have to pay it all up front. you can just get it done little by little.

See I don't know what all it takes to make 113s flow good. I don't have the tools or experiance to make that happen. I'm not sure how good of port job my machine shop does. But its not bad I guess.....I don't know I'm just trying to figure this stuff out....

actually I'm just going to get 113s. I'm buying them from a guy for 300 I don't think thats a bad deal. They only have 5k miles on them too. I'll have port work done on them to open them up a bit for flow. Maybe install 2.00/1.60 valves in the process. I know they aren't no AFRs but I know they will make decent power, thats all I need!!!

The best head for your application is the AFR 180cc head.
My second choice would be the Edelbrock RPM with 64cc chambers.
A good low cost alternative is the Vortec. You will however need to buy a manifold.
In my opinion, the biggest mistake you can make is putting a head on that has too large of an intake runner. Go for the best flow with the smallest intake runner size and you will have a very responsive motor that makes good power.
I have an 11.0-1 406 solid roller cam and am running a Brodix RR200 cylinder head. As the name implies, it has 200cc runner.
