Can not retrive codes from ecm
Hey all, I was coming back from getting my car emission tested ( it passed), then all of a sudden I get a check engine light and the car runs like crap. I can not pull any codes through the ALDL it just flashes 12 and my autoxray says vehicle not responding. I even started the car and disconnected the est connector to purposely set a code 42 and all I get is a code 12. Is my ecm fried or what. My car is a 85 Ta with the 870 ecm. Please help.

Hey WackyTower,
Could you be a little more specific on the runs like crap. Is it stumbling, rough idle, no power, and have you been able to use your scanner on the car in the past.

Yes the scanner has worked fine in the past. When it runs like crap it seems like its extremely rich or lean Im not sure which. and it seems like It pulls the timing out, sort of like limp home mode. It also backfires through the intake upon acceration and has no power, stalls ect.

Heres a couple of items to look at and read. Try getting another scan tool and see if it will link to the computer. Although, it should have brought up some codes by jumpering the ALDL at pin A & B.
