Stealthram Issues

I just built a new 414SBC and have the Holley StealthRam Commander 950 with 30lbs injectors, I am running a CompCams XM276HR cam with 1.52 roller rockers, CR is 10.1, I am using the GM Small Cap Dizzy and have Protopline 220CC heads with 202/160 valves. I have the idle screw adjusted all the way in and it barely idles, it runs extremly rich, I have tried adjusting fuel to lean it out but my idle still won't come up, I have checked for Vacuum leaks & have none. My TPS at 500rpm is 14, vacuum at this rpm is 8lbs (just barely running), at 1000rpm vacuum is 16, I adjusted the O2 Sensor voltages to those on page 46 of the user manual and this has help a little. How much have you guys had to screw with the HSR to get running right? The engine revs nice and sounds strong. Does anyone have any ideas. Desperate!!

What are the IAC readings? Sounds like the IAC is closed.

at first I didn't think the IAC was working and I pulled it out and checked to make sure gasket wasn't on wrong or airways were plugged. I put the IAC back down all the way and tried different map and this time I could here the vacuum being sucked back in. The IAC setting at idle is 10, if you bring up off idle just a little the IAC is constantly changing at idle the rpm is also fluctuating. If I bring idle up to 1050/1100 my O2 readings appear more normal and will get readings indication lean. I just ordered a set of 24lbs accel injectors to see if that will help. I would have thought the 30lb injectors would have been good to go. but when I run the engine it is massively rich burning my eyes. I dropped about 6 gallons in less than 30 minutes of runtime. Even if I pull the PCV out of the vacuum line it is still rich, the idle however does come up.

If you Email me your your fuel & spark maps files I will look at them. Do you have the idle spark control activated? I seriously doubt your injectors are too big. I run 30 lb SVO injectors in my 383 & it does not run too rich.

Was this engine running before the Stealth Ram? Or is this an all new combo?

This is an all new setup. Previous motor was 350 will a holley MPFI digital. I am in the process right now of fixing a couple minor issues before I tackle this thing again which won't take to long. one of which is trying to find a longer idle screw. Even though this thing runs rich and I have leaned it out seems to me I should have some type of at least getting this thing to idle high with the set screw, also the TPS switch I had to turn fully rich in order for it to register and then I only get 14 on the reading, my throttle plates are only open about a 1/16 of an inch. I curently have the timing set at 8btdc. If your running the 383 setup what is your timing at?

Your first step should be to get it to idle correctly. The IAC should take over idle speed, but if your blades aren't open far enough that could be a problem.
That's the same cam I use, except mine is on 110 centerline, where yours is on a 112. That would be a fairly mild cam for the cubes you have. Vacuum should be decent at idle.
Are you using the C950 to control timing? If so the distributor & ECU [b]must be[\b] synched before you try to adjust the spark map. For example: the reading with the timing light would 15 BTDC & the ECU should show 15 BTDC at the same time. Once it is synched, lock down the distributor & forget it. Do all your timing adjustments with the laptop. The Stealth Ram likes an aggressive timing map. I set my idle timing at 17 degrees, however with the Idle Spark Control activated the ECU stabilizes the idle by adjusting the timing in small increments. I based my spark map by the one Holley provides for the ZZ4 Stealth Ram Map on their website.
When you are making changes via the laptop, make sure it reads "ECU Data" in the upper left corner of the screen & it says "online" right below it. If either of these two things aren't right, the laptop is not communicating with the ECU & any changes made will have no effect.

Re: Stealthram Issues

i have this same problem. I tried to use the ZZ4 Map and it was all messed up. i think someone messed with the new one on there web page. I had better luck with the 383SBC30 map but it harder to start. still runs rich though? my Fuel pressure is 43. i have the same setup as ricktip sort of. here my current setup

383 Holley Stealth Ram w/ Holley 58mm Throttle body
Eagle Balanced rotating assembly
Eagle SIR 6" I-Beam Rods with ARP bolts
64cc Alumnium Heads w/ 195cc runners and angled spark plugs
Holley Commander 950 Fuel System
Holley 30lb Injectors
Comp cams 12-268-4 (custom grind w/112 LS rather then 110)
1.52 Comp Cams Pro Magnum Roller Rockers

I went through emission here in CT and fail CO with a 0.86 passing is .26. anyone have any ideas??
