If all you want to do is swap cams I would go with the L98 or LT1 cam. If you are willing to get better springs, screw in studs and like then i would get the ZZ4. Springs and studs are still a good idea for the others, however. Also the ZZ4 will benefit from a custom prom.

assuming you are talking about the 86' in your side bar you have the horrible peanut cam 178/194 .350"/.385" 109 degree lobe seperation. What else are you willing to do, that will tell us how big of a cam you should get.

I may be overlooking something, but the way i read it he has an '85, not an '86.
'85/700R4 (w/LB9 and L69) cam specs are as follows...
Duration @ .050 is 202/206, lift is .403/.415, lobe speration is 114.5, rocker arm ratio is (115/-114).
The '86 cam that I have is ****, duration @ .050 is 179/194
I have the TPI summit cam kit ready to go in, duration @ .050 is 204/214 so there should be a noticable difference.
This wasn't my first choice of camshaft, but since I am a highschool student im on a budget and decided to go with this because it's cheap and will bring my HP up to at least where a stock '85 is at. I'de go with the 212/218 CompCam with an Xtreme energy personally with a mild 305 setup.

I agree with ChevyCamaro. With a mild 305 the 212/218 would be a nice cam. You will need to replace the springs and lifters no matter what cam you get. You can't use the LT1 cam or the ZZ4 cam because they are both roller cams I believe. You have to have a flat tappet cam unless you convert everything over which may be to big of a PITA and not worth the trouble.
