how much better are the AFR 195's over the 190's
Is there anything big to be gained from switching from AFR 190's to the 195's? I am building a 383 and I already have brand new AFR heads. Thing is they are only 190's I bought them a while back on ebay becuz they where listed as 195 heads. will these 190's be ok for use on my buildup:
383 HSR 9.7:1, cam is a comp cam 224/230 .498/.503 with 1.5 roller rockers. I am 99% sure thi sis the cam grind they set me up with on the phone. I have not ordered this cam yet though. other mods are in sig.
ShouldI ditch the heads and get something bigger or just use these? Car will be street /strip setup

Well looking on AFR's site there dosen't seem too much of a diffrence below .550 lift.....the 195's have a little more potential in the higher lift area..but the cam you have with lifts around .500 won't even see the full potential of the 190's you have....
I would like to do a 383 myself down the road and have been wondering about this myself...
I think the 190's as is or even ported will support more than enough for most street/strip setups...provided the rest of the setup is balanced.

those heads should be fine.. although i'm not a fan of the afr's.... the best thing you could do with those heads is bring the compression up to about 10.5 ... the motor will be much happier and make much more power.. they are aluminum heads.. don't worry bout detonation.. the cam will be much happier their as well.
get the block decked to zero, and deck the heads to get the compression you need with flattop pistons.. and the motor will be much happier than struggling with the low compression.
