why does my fuel pump still run after the car is off?

When I turn off my car I can hear my fuel pump still running for about a minute. I dont remember it doing that before. Could it have anything to do with the fact the key is broken? It started doing this about a month ago. the key broke about 5 months ago probly not related. Could having a cracked block cause it to do that. What is wrong?

My first suspicion is that the oil pressure switch has gone bad. The fuel pump will continue to get power as long as there is oil pressure. My car is converted from injection to carb but the pump runs for a few seconds after I shut it off until the oil pressure bleeds down to below the switch's threshold.

So can my cracked block be contrbuting to that?

I can't see how a crack in the block can maintain oil pressure after the oil pump is no longer driven, so no, they're probably not related.

As far as I know the pump gets energized for a few seconds (via the ECM & fuel pump relay) when you first turn the ignition on or while cranking the engine over to start, then the pump is energized through the oil pressure switch once you release the key to the 'run' position.
