How about this combo?

I need some advice on my plans for my engine in my 92 Z28 with TPI 350 ( 32000 original miles). I have done the following- removed both catalytic converters, gutted airbox, TB air foil, SLP runners, ported upper plenum and Flowmaster muffler. With this the car ran a best of 14.34 @ 95mph. This is what I plan for the engine-- Edelbrock #60859 heads, Comp Cams ''Extreme'' 218/224 -- .495/.502 with 112 LSA, Hooker 1 3/4'' long tube headers, and Accel Super ram base intake. My goal is to get the car to run low 13's or high 12's. Do you think this a decent combo to go with? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Looks like your on the right track for a good combo. keep with that combo and u'll be happy with it. I would consider porting your heads out, that wy u can take advantage of the base and the cam. Just remember for everything you change have your PROM tuned accordingly. Good luck and keep us posted

Thanks Jason, I also have some L98 58cc Corvette heads laying around. Do you think I should re-work these with a good multi-angle valve job, or would I get the most from a set of aftermarket heads. My car is Speed Density, so I was thinking of getting Ed Wright to do a chip re-program for me after I get things sorted out on what to go with. I noticed that you are using Hooker's 2055 headers, how are those working out for you? Thanks again for the info. Robert

Hey sorry for the late reply...

If ur on a tight budget I would use your vette heads. Deffinatly port em and do a bowl job on em, plus bigger valves. That would mate perfectly to the lower base. Remember to port match the base to ur heads! If money isnt a big deal in ur build up go with some AFR's they are by far the best heads on the market for TPI's. Although they are spendy. But a good set of worked over aluminum heads would be an excellent choice.

I love my hookers I cut the A.I.R. tube off and filled the holes with weld. Also the y-pipe is the best on the market for flow. Its a 2 1/2" into 3" y-pipe. Also the headers dropped right in for me unlike most other headers. If your thinking of shortie headers then go with the 2055's hands down. plus the price wont bust ur budget either.

I agree with the recomendations for the heads and cam. The AFRs are the best head around, but with a little work the Vette heads are no slouch either.

Another thing you migh want to consider is a shorter runner intake conversion. This combo you are building is going to breath, so why limit it to 5,200 RPM with TPI like components? I'd step up to a HSR or other medium runner intake. An LT1 swap may also be a good way to go.

Seems a lot of guys here a 1 3/4" primary happy when it really isn't needed:

Even with the large TFS 215cc intake heads and thumper cam, the HT 383 made best power and torque with a set of 1-5/8-inch Hedman street headers running through mufflers. It took only a minor jet-change tune-up to crank out 500 lb-ft of torque and 491 hp at 5,700. This GM Performance Parts HT 383 continues to amaze us with its excellent power.

Just food for thought.
