Would you buy a StealthRam for Vortec heads?
#152
Im hoping for a lower height plennum to fit the Firebird and Vette owner's hoodlines without chopping(hint hint). Some place was making different plennum's to fit but I dont see them available now. If it fits the Vortec and my hood I'm buying ASAP, if not I'll run more boost and continue with the ported SDPC base LargeTR setup.

My guess is that for the price to mod the intake, would out weigh the cost of a new glass hood.

Yeah its cheaper for you to get a glass hood than that intake for sure. But I'm not having any more glass hoods on my street cars, period. I've had several of the best glass hoods made, enough of that crap. GM steel and no brace cutting here.
That custom intake is WAY more suited to Vette than Firebird's with that severe angle of TB. Would love to see some flow #'s on that thing while one whole bank of four cylinders were in use. I wonder about cylinder volume/balance with that intake while running. Nice look though.

Just had a brain storm,
This new intake, is coming out how many years after the original, and it is taking how many years in development, do you think they will incorporate new airflow technologies with the intake? Imagine the possibilities, Ported etec 200's and an intake flowing better than LS-1/6/2 intakes. Possible or am I just in a disillusioned dream?

I emailed Doug Flynn at Holley last week. He confirmed that the Vortec-style Stealth Ram will make its debut at SEMA in a few weeks. He expects tooling to be in place for production by January, but he made it very clear to me that this date is highly subject to change depending on how long it takes to get the tooling in place.
But at least we know now that it is definately on its way, and we have a rough estimate for when they will be available.

Is there any word whether the Vortec-style Stealth Ram will have a lower profile so it'll fit under the hood of a Firebird without cutting the bracing?

As far as I know the only difference is the lower base. I doubt the plenum will be any different.

I didn't ask him. All I asked him was whether a vortec version was coming out. I have a camaro with a cowl hood, so none of that other crap was a concern to me, and since I had a better chance of getting 1 question answered than I did of getting 20 answered, I kept it short.

They could cater to C4 Vette's and Firebird/TA owner's with some simple changes to lower the TB. Considering the market I would have taken it into consideration. Anybody know if some place makes the plenum that fits the Vette still?

You know even if they build the thing in Jan. 05. The odd's of actually getting one will be slim. Every Tom, Dick and Harry on this board is going to try and buy the thing. It will probably go on back order another six months after its released.
I wish they would just build the thing already. I have been trying to plan a motor around this thing for months. I just need that damn intake.

I doubt they'll have the same sort of shortage they did before. There are still WAY less people running vortec heads compared to traditional heads. I don't think there will be the same sort of demand this time around.

We'll see. Even if there's a shortage, I can't imagine it being nearly as bad as on the original stealth ram. There just aren't that many people running vortec heads in EFI applications.

Well I'm keeping my AS&M LTR-ported SDPC vortec base setup until I see these available and how they fit hoodlines. I dont really need the HSR/vortec setup as I can just run more boost(backpressure) with the TPI setup for the same power. If they want my dime their gonna have to make it fit the firebird though, or somebodies gonna make it fit for me.
By the way it took some of us a LONG time to get the SDPC base, and who knows how long that will be available.

That's awesome! I think that seals the deal on me getting a set of Vortecs. Or quite possibly some Fast Burns.

I think I will be waiting on the new Vortec HSR to come out instead of doing what I was initially going to do, which is convert to the LT1 intake.
