Post your TPI set ups here

I'm getting ready to build my first 350 soon and i'm not quite sure how i want to setup my TPI system. I'm looking to make peak power at around 5,500RPM and make hopefully 280-320 HP.

So please post your set up, how it has worked for you so far and why you decided to use your setup. Thanks for your time.

I went with a Lingenfelter super ram upper and edelbrock high-flo lower intake. I'm happy with this combo. The car is running 13.50's with a stock engine. Plus i think this combo will work well when I rebuild the motor with LPE 219/219 and AFR195's. anyway you can see what has been done to the TPI aswell as other parts of the car below.

In my sig. It peeks lower than 5500 though, at 4400. I think that's about all the stock runners can manage. I like it alot.
Good luck,
Charlie

Okay here is my TPI setup with a 1989 L98 350CI. Stock Edelbrock highflow base, stock early SLP runners, slightly modified factory plenum. Screens removed from MAF. 256 RWHP at 4200RPM and pretty flat to around 5100RPM. Problem there is the reground factory cam with 117.5 LSA. This month I will have a ZZ4 cam installed with a 112 LSA and this should increase the HP and move the peak up the RPM range. Also will port match everthing and siameese the SLP runners a lot more. Also ran a 13.8 and 102 at the track with the set up. I will also be installing some suspension mods as the car needs them in the worst way. Allen

Here's a good one that will work with the stock chip and get you low 13's at about the horsepower you're asking for:

350 cubic inches (or 355, same thing)
Trick Flow 23 degree heads
ZZ4 cam
SLP 1 3/4" headers
Edelbrock or Accel TPI intake manifold
SLP or AS&M Siamesed runners
Any good 3" exhaust system you like

Are you using an automatic or a stick shift? If an automatic you WILL need to get the trans rebuit to handle the horsepower, and dont forget a good stall converter too, in about the 2400-2800 rpm range. For a stick shift, be careful with the T5, and get yourself a good clutch like from McLeod.

Cool thanks for posting all your setups

Kevin91z thanks especially for your post
Would that setup work as well or about as well with a set of World Products S/R Torquers or similar heads? I dont exactly have the funds for aluminum heads right now.

I originally was going to use a spare 700R4 transmission and upgrading to a t-56 later on when funds are more plentyful. But if i'm going to have to rebuild it i might as well just go for the t-56 right off the bat. Thank you very much for your tips.

Also where can i find a zz4 cam? i cant find it anywhere outside of crate engines

Engine: 350 TPI, 2.0turbo, 383 in the works, 289-4BBL, 232, A-head 4-cylinder

Axle/Gears: 3.73, 3.90, 4.88, 3.55, 3.54, 7.00
The biggest thing to remember is to match your intake and TPI system to your engine. It sounds like you are already planning heads and a cam swap, so you're already on the right track.

You could also go with a miniram or LT1 conversion intake with the T56. You will lose some low end, but the top end will pick up a lot. You will be able to determien where the car launches, because it's a stick.

If the car will stay an auto then stick with a setup that is closer to stock (ported plenum, SLP/LPE runners, hi-flow base), unless you want to run a fairly high stall converter.

Also, you might want to reconsider the ZZ4 cam. It is really designed for a carbureted engine, and may not have enough LSA to work properly with a TPI system. I would stick with a LPE, TPIS, or SLP grind.

very nice. that's about the same HP and 1/4 mile #'s i'm looking for.

my set up right now. basically only major mod being the headers. went 14.4@96 before changing back to the stock runners:

Edelbrock Smog Legal TES Headers
Factory 3" Single Exhaust
Flowmaster 80 Series 2-Chamber Muffler

Injection:
Accel 22lbs Injectors
Hypertech Thermomaster Chip
Polished Throttle Body with Air Foil
Port Matched Intake, Runners, and Throttle Body
Throttle Body Coolant Bypass
BBK Adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator
K&N Air Filters with modified airbox

Valvetrain+:
Aluminum roller rockers

Rhoads Progressive Lifters (Swapped out)
March Underdrive Pulleys

Ignition:
Pertronix Flame Thrower HEI Kit
MSD 6A Box
MSD 8.5mm Wires
Bosch +2 Platinum plugs

That's all I can remember, there's probably something else hiding in there The cam was too lumpy for a 305, but it ought to work better in the 327 with a higher stall converter (or stick). It was gutless off the line, but damn it made some serious power at 2800 to 5500+!!! It's a very strong setup that got 18-20mpg - pretty killer if you ask me.

Don't know unfortunately. For the last year, I've been trying to diagnose and solve a idle misfire.

However, prior to the problem, it was running fine for a few months with my then-new Miniram and a ZZ4 camshaft (which only has 208° intake duration). Even with that smaller cam, there was no lack of power over 5000 rpm. I haven't tuned the engine for the new cam because of the misfire problem, but even now, it feels like it's going to be extremely strong.

I wanted a near-stock idle with good all around performance and good fuel economy (I also have a TH700-R4). I'm sure this cam will give me both. Heck, if a stock ZZ4 can make 355 (and it does, as I've witnessed dyno pulls on one), then the addition of AFR heads and bigger cam should get me darn close to 400 hp (which is fine with me!).

What gears would you recommend for a set up like that?
