LT4 cam dowel pin adjustment?

hey, ive got an LT4 cam part # 12551142 im puttin in an LB9...gm says that for the LT4 HOT cam part # 24502586 the dowel pin on the end needs to be shortened from .620" to .30" ...does anyone know if this applies to the LT4 cam, i assume it does but i just wanna make sure...and gm uses the phrase "...needs to be pushed in..." ...can it be pushed in?! or do u have to cut it...i have to admit i dont have the cam in my possession is why i cant answer some of these things...thanks a lot

The dowel will need to be shortened. It doesn't need to be exact for out SBC, just long enough to fully engage the cam gear but short enough not to hit the timing chain cover.

The dowel pin can be tapped in with a hammer. I would suggest a brass hammer so as not to damage it.

My Lt1 cam's dowel wouldn't budge so I just cut it off. I bought a hotcam and it went in with a few taps of the hammer. No big deal either way. Just get it in to around .300" (within .030")
Good luck

Cut mine off with a Dremel and a cut-off wheel. Worked great!

So in case you're confused. Most folks try to tap it in first with a hammer, if it doesn't go, cutting the end off with the dremel or similar is acceptable.

BTW, don't go putting it in a vise or anything crazy like that when you're hammering or cutting it
