New type of MAF sensor???
OK, I just replaced my MAF. My old sensor was original, so pardon my being late to the party if this is old news. The new sensor had no little ring with the filments inside, it actually had a green circuit board that ran top to bottom. In the middle, on the leading edge was a cut-out with a thin piece of plastic, and a stamped circuit on it, which I'm guessing was the "filament", that heats up.
It had a whacky honeycomb screen too...which came out easier than the old screens did.
Since the screen was different than the "old" screen, I'd say it's safe to say that the good ole "leave the screen in because it smooths the airflow" excuse was not really valid. Unless they engineered a whole new aerodynamic screen for a sensor on a gen1 SBC. Hmmmm
comments?...anyone?...bueller?

I just had to replace my MAF recently and my new MAF resembles the one you have just described, except mine was made by a company called Micro-Tech. It has a limited life time warranty on it, so if it goes bad I just take it back and get a new one.:hail:
