Good/Bad Cam?
Hi guys ,
I am going to do a build up on a 350. I am going to use vortec heads and the Scoggin Dickey base other then that and cleaning up the plenum entry Iam pretty much going to use the stock TPI. I was thinking about using the Comp Xtreme Energy 274 grind do you think this would be a good choice? I'm also going to install a adjustable fuel pressure regulator, air foil, and headers. In the future I may install a larger throttle body and aftermarket runners, but for now my modifications are hindered by the flow of cash from my pocket instead of to my pocket. This combo is going into a full weight car that currently has 345 gears but I am planning in swaping in 373's asap.
Thanks for the help
Bob

Sorry, specs are as follows
- Duration@.050 230/236
-Vavle lift .487/.490
-110 degrees lobe seperation
I know this seems a little high (duration @ .050), but I thought I could run Rhoads lifters to get the duration down at idle.(or are they a joke)
I also considerd going with one of their Xtreme 4X4 cams specs on it are as follows
-Duration@.050 218/226
-Vavle lift .493/.512
-111 degrees lobe seperation
This seems to almost be to far down on duration. I am new to the TPI game, but my understanding is that stock TPI falls off around 4800 RPM, but with the right combination of heads and cam, and some porting it will pull to about 5500 RPM. Thats why I am trying to be conservative on the camshaft. The cams I have been considering are all flat-tappet. With the restrictions I have to work around with the TPI would I maybe benifit largely by going to a roller cam or would it just be minimal?
Thanks again

cam seems way to big, youd have a dog off the line.. Ive had this before and it sucks. There are tons of guys who run 12s with only 219 dur @ .050, plus TPI doesnt agreee with the duration #'s on your first cam, the 2nd is a better choice by far.
I have also swapped from a solid cam to a roller, and It was definatly worth it! but look to spend $1000 on a swap....I would go with a solid lifter cam, adjusting vavles is not hard and I only had to do it once a year or so....

I'd go with the XE262H. I don't think TPI would be able to take much advantage of anything bigger than that.

"Good for TPI 305 or 350 with aftermarket chip and upgraded exhaust"
