HSR vs. $2289 in mods

The test car is bone stock a 91' T/A w/L98 ,700r4, and a 2:73 rear.

What does everyone think would be better?
Buying the $2289 complete HSR that includes 58mm TB, Fuel Rails, Injectors, Commander 950 ECM and putting it on the stock L98.

Or spending the $2289 in mods on the the stock car. But the mods can include everything from a rear gear, Intake mods, to lightweight seats and etc. I just want suggestions not arguments.

Spend the $$ on new mods...

My opinion is 2200 in heads, cam, exhaust, etc, will make you happier.

The HSR is more of a high RPM intake,so without gears, cam and heads that will flow, you'll probably be dissapointed with it's results on a stock L98.

If you have TPI now you only need to spend 500 for the intake. So then you have 1500 left to do heads and cam.

Yes - if you have a TPI car with a TPI ECU then all you need for an HSR purchase is the intake & fuel rails pretty much! So it boils down to like 600 bucks for the HSR to work on the L98. You'll have around 1500.00 to spend on heads & a cam to use the HSR better. Be a smart shopper and you might even be able to squeeze in headers.

A bone stock L98 with 2.73's will do something like 14.9 where as an L98 with an HSR, headers, cam & heads (even with the wimpy 2.73's) will see easy low 13's. BIG difference no?

IMHO I don't think you would be happy with the stealth ram, head, cam combo unless you swapped out your gears. A set of 3.42 gears would complement the gained upper rpm power nicely.

A quick short answer is ,, absolutely, positively, without a doubt use the money to do other modifications instead of buying the HSR package.

I dissagree. Other mods will just prove how much the stock TPI blows.

I think he meant to buy the HSR, just not the $2000 package. I agree....

$500 or so on a HSR
$1000 or more on good heads
$300 or so on a good cam
throw in some headers, exhaust, gears, clutch/stall and you'll easily be seeing 12s with tuning!

Thanks GTA91, That is exactly what I meant, (not to buy the whole package) I had to kept it short because I had to run out of the house at the time I posted that.

Just think, Bri3212 if you played your cards right, even finding deals on some good used parts, as well as the HSR, Heads, Cam, Headers, GTA91 mentioned above, you could probably get a decent used rear with better gears (anything would be better than the 2.73s) and maybe a torque converter as well.
Then as he mentioned above also, you would just have tuning to deal with.
