MAF to MAP questions

I have, what I think, is an 87 350 TPI induction system(it has the cold start injector). I'm buying a 350 shortblock and using this system with it. The car I'm planning on dropping it into is a 90 RS. I still have all of the pulleys from the old 305 engine and I wanted to use them on this new engine. I was looking at my buddy's 91 GTA and the accessories look the same as my old 305 accessories. The reason why I want to use the accessories from my 305 on the 350 is because the used 350 I bought was from a Caprice and has V-belt pulleys. So if I could use the 305 accessories, I was thinking I could buy a 91 Iroc-Z wiring harness and ECM, this would convert it from MAF to MAP. Either way I really want to use my old accessories if I could because they all work and are in great condition. Let me know what my options are. Thanks a lot.

If the 305 came out of the car the new motor is going in, by all means use them!!!!!! You will also need a MAP sensor and to remove the cold start injector. there is a spot in another thread that shows how to do it.... Good luck with your project!!!!

BTW, was your 305 TBI? If so, you will need to change the fuel pump as well..... TPI uses far higher pressure than TBI.....

Check out the GM Port Injection section of this website:

yes it was a 305 TBI. I'm planning on buying the fuel lines and pump from that 91 GTA. Besides those and the MAP sensor, will everything else work? Can I use the 305 sensors that are located in the heads? And can I use the same O2 sensor? Thanks for the help.

good luck finding a 91 Iroc-Z.
might be hard since 90 was the last year.

That might be why he said a GTA (Pontiac).

I would seriously suggest you look at the information on the website I listed for you. Another place to check is on this board somewhere.... I don't remember how I found it, but there was a place that had tons of info on the sensors.

The 90-92 system uses a different knock sensor than than the earlier systems.

I would think the O2 sensor would be ok

The sensor in the head is going to be coolant temp for your gauge or a fan switch. The computer temp switch is in the front of the intake manifold and that usually controls your fans unless you have rewired things like I have (due to extra fans)
