Its Dead! Need help! Details within

The car was running great and all of a sudden it started to hesitate badly at idle. Sometimes it would run smooth as can be then just start to hesitate to stay alive then die. Bringing RPM'S up any would usually cause it to die when letting off the gas and you could hear a misfire. Then I fired it up one last time with my laptop connected to the car and it didn't throw codes or anything. Everything looked normal. I ran it a few times on the laptop and it seemed to run great then all of a sudden it died all together.

Well I looked at it much more closely and finally I found a split in the spark plug wire going to cylinder 6. So I figured i'll do the whole thing. New plugs, new wires, cap and rotor. I just got done putting on the wires and I noticed the split wire was arcing to the Exhaust AIR tube. I'm guessing that is where all of my problems came from. But obviously it killed something else.

This is what does work. Everything but the motor! Digital Dash comes alive and everything else was fine. I'm gettting fuel since I changed the fuel filter and checked at the rail. How should I go about checking for spark? I'm going to go hook up a plug to a wire and see if I get anything. I don't know what might have blown up and I really could use some help from anyone. Anything else I can check?

88 GTA in sig by the way.

Thanks alot.

Ok well I just got in from checking I don't know if I did it right but this is what I did. I took one of the old wires which looked fine and hooked it up to an old plug which looked pretty good and I got no spark coming out of it. Does this basically leave me with a bad coil or anything else I should try? Or am I best off to just use one of the new wires and get a new plug? I don't know it's driving me nuts. Sorry. Any suggestions would be great.

Try unhooking the wire from the middle of the dist. (from the coil) and put a spark plug on it. Just have it laying against the plenum so you can see it while you crank the motor, and see if there's spark.

Betting on an ignition module being bad.

Alright I hooked a plug right to the coil wire and got nothing coming out of it. I guess i'll pick up an ignition module from someplace today and give that a shot. Thanks alot!

ONLY use Delco ignition modules or you'll be sorry.

Just posting back to say i'm sure it was the ignition module. I replaced the coil and module at the same time but the old module looked beat and rusted so i'm sure it was shot.

Don't worry! Picked up the AC Delco as recommended. Everything went smooth. Fired the car up and it ran like crap for about 2 - 3 mins then smoothed out perfect. Got a new problem now of the Digital Dash dimming at about 4 grand but it only happens real fast so i'll worry about it later since it seems to be working fine.

Thank you for all your help and your recommendations. :hail:
