idle too high sny ideas
I have an 87 TA 305 TPI, flowmaster exhaust, airfoil,K&N with cold air induction, ADS superchip. I am having a problem with fast idle, when the car starts it idles at about 750 rpm but then quickly goes up to 1000 to 1200 RPM. it idles there in park (automatic ) & idles about 750 - 800 RPM in drive. I have repalced the TPS, IAC and adjusted minimum air. Anybody have any ideas on a fix HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have since posting drove the car for more than just a short drive, the idle corrects itself to about 550 RPM in drive. I have a
180 degree thermostat maybe it just has to get good & warm
I am not quite sure why.

That's how they are designed. It should go away after a few miles or a few minutes, whichever comes first.... Kind of like a choke on a carb...... That's just your cold start injector kicking in.... I believe it goes off after the engine reaches 100 degrees.

Yep, my car does the same thing and it pisses me off. When I put it in drive, the damn transmission makes a loud clunk and whoever is standing by my car at the time is all like "You're transmission is messed up"
I wanna slap 'em with a large trout and tell them to stfu, they don't know whats goin on.

I feel the same way when the thing clunks when I put it in drive.
Really sucks at a car show!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Maybe I should go back to the stock thermostat, but I really hate to give up the advantages of running cooler. Every little bit helps
like the small gain from the throttlebody bypass.
Thanks for all the replies. If anybody has any more comments I would certainly welcome them:hail:

Limp home mode runs around 1100 rpm idle in my car. If you have another chip that you can run in the car i'd go ahead and try it. I doubt its your problem, but it may be worth a look if your out of ideas.

The thud is your engine running too fast when you slam it into gear. Let teh car idle down before you put it into gear and everything will be ok. After the car has been running 15 seconds try revig the engine slightly just like you would to kick the choke off on a carb. That will usually kick your engine RPM down in this case as well.....
Don't get in too muh of a rush to take off in a cold car. Teh engine oil needs to heat up first as well. If the oil isn't warmed up some, it may bypass your oil filter (way bad!!!) until it does. Not to mention that it doesn't do your bearings any good either......
