stumbles and shakes at idle

car was running great for the last month.. idled perfect... 350 super ram, cammed, heads..

drove home ~180 miles and i pull into the city and the car is shakin a bit.. its gotten progessively worse over the last couple days

at idle the whole car shakes.. if you rev it up a bit its pretty smooth.. still has decent power, but down low its useless

i ran the scanner and the blms are good at 128 and the spark is hoping around from 22 to 17.. gonna redo the rockers again tommorrow but they seemed to be good last time

my question is there anyways to test an injector, measured it and it was 13.2 ohms but when i took off the connector i really couldnt notice much of a drop in rpm from #8.. strangely neither did #1 when i took the injector plug off, but #1 made a difference at high rpm..

then i stupidly grabbed the plug off the distributor and freakin electrocuted myself and sparks were travelling down the cap but it still didnt have much of an affect on the rpm.. #8

ive been idling around 750 but is this too low for a 219 superram combo? it seemed to be running better with all the vaccum leaks

is there also any way to tell if your only running on seven cyls.. this car eats up all my time and it seems to come up with a new problem just to keep me guessing

set the rockers on the one side.. kinda smoothed it out a bit.. loosened the #8 one all the way on the intake and it wasnt changing like the rpm like the other ones

i checked it to the others and the #8 injector is not ticking at all.. theres no gas pouring out the pipe and the spark should be good.. guess it just closed up or got plugged.. more checks tommorrow

whats the symptoms of running on 7 cyls?

anyone wanna buy a super ram

Try using a looong screwdriver and hold it against the injector and your ear to listen for the clicking sound. If you don't hear it try tapping the injector with the screwdriver....could be stuck. Another way to check it is to unplug it while the car is running, you can tell if it's working cause the rpm should drop slightly and it'll run a tad rougher.

Good Luck!!

Oh yeah, check the rockers you didn't do yet.

Car: Check The Sig
this brings up what i wanted to know about my car.

I got in the car yesterday, and it idled at aroun 1200 for about 30-40 sec's maybe less.. and then went down to around 750... but shaked and shimmed more then usual. I popped the hood, and a loud sound that some call detonation in the exhaust. It sounded just like people describe it.. rocks in a trash can sound. I can hear it if im under the car or near the exhaust... I just had a new cat and cat back installed. Would a vaccum leak give me a lot of shake and shimmy too? I did take apart my tpi several times over the past couple of days, but only the plenum. Ill look around for more vaccum lines going into the plenum incase i broke one off or something. What else could it be causing the shaking when i first start the car and it goes in closed loop? I didnt notice anything when i was driving or a lack in power as throttle response is crisper with the exhaust so i dont notice any power loss. sorry for the high jacking..

Pretty much exactly what youre describing. If you cut the fuel for the #8 cylinder and it made no difference, Id be pretty confident in saying that cylinder is where your problem is. Are you sure you dont have a wire arcing against a header or slightly off the plug/distributor? Id check the obvious stuff first.

it could be arching but they are not too close at all.. ill try having a look at night tonight

another update... i pulled the plug, it was tan with a little bit of black on it around the edge.. looking just like the #1 plug i pulled a minute later

i started it up with both of them out and no gas was coming out the plug holes at all???? why wouldnt it? would it get sucked out the exhaust?

compression was 150 on the #1 cyl cant get at the others

did the other side of the rockers and it didnt seem to affect much

i beat the #8 injector a bit and it seemed to kinda losen up and clicking..its still kinda shaking but not as bad

i think its spraying but it isnt spraying 100%

i left my fuel pressure gauge back home so i cant do a leakdown test on a couple of them, try some injector cleaner and a new fuel filter and bump the idle up a couple hundred rpms, maybe a bit of the spark and idle correction paramaters as its jumping around way too much.. 5 degrees would cause bobbles for sure

Have the injectors cleaned and flow checked. I feel your pain man, my car's been doin the same thing for its while life after the engine swap. I've replaced everything electrical and sensor related, and ive replaced all fuel components except injectors, cuz i got em cleaned. Ive also replaced all spark components, along with the computer twice. Still runs like crap. I'm pretty sure I'm low on compression, so i gotta test it but its so friggin hard with headers.

i know about the headers.. #6 and #8 plugs good luck, can barely even see it from the top

i bought a shorter belt.. injector cleaner and the fuel filter.. threw them in and it only seemed to get worse.. injector #8 is kinda ticking now which should be a good thing

i would take them off and get them cleaned if it was an easy job but not at this time.. gotta get home.. guess ill be roughin it up there then get them cleaned over the winter

too bad no one has a wideband around here

i also cannot do a burnout now.. i used to be able too.. its just useless down low but once it hits 3 grand it moves.. stupid stock stall

next thing is to tinker with the distributor a bit see if i can smooth it out.. maybe a bit more fuel pressure

What did you expect to run on 7 cylinders?
