Got the motor all planned out! Need some of your input

I'm getting a new motor for my car this Christmas and trying to plan out my mods.
Goal: 12's, NA, Daily driver, 16+mpg
Plan of Attack:

L98
Vortec Heads
SDPC TPI Base
Ported SLP Runners
Ported Plenum
LT4 Hotcam kit
24 lb Injectors (30 lb?)
Shorties or Mid-lengths (We have emissions here )

I've already got a cat-back. With proper tuning do you think I could get what I'm after? Any ideas of rwhp/tq? Thanks

-Rippin

You have my dad's combo in his car, with the exception of the HOT cam instead of his ZZ4 cam. And he's run a best of 13.23 so far. I have the HOT cam and have run 12's plus 20+ mpg. Dont forget you WILL need chip tuning to optimize it. And I dont mean ordering one over the phone/internet.

Do you know what hp/tq he has? The Hotcam seems a little more aggressive. Either way though I'd still be looking at low 13's. Sweet. Thanks man

As for your injector size question, #24s will be fine.

I am building the exact same combo minus cam. I strongly believe that my car will run low 13s. Good luck

What cam are you going to be using? I'm not positive about the LT4 Hotcam kit yet.

For now I am sticking with my stock L98 cam, will try 1.6 roller rockers and try to maximize this combo. I really like the idea of stock like idle, vacuum and driveability....maybe I'll try another cam out next year.

i dig the setup and know of one similar to that in the tuning stages.

I'd go with the comp XR269hr cam. it's a more agressive cam on the lobes. only requires 1.5 rockers, and doesn't require as extensive machine work. the LT4 springs work just fine with it. I think more suited to the vortec heads and the long tube runners.

Slp headers in the 1 3/4" range should do you fine if you can get a hold of em

if you get the whole thing tuned right it should do in the 365-375horse range, 425 +/- in torque. have a very broad powerband, give you good mileage much more that 16.

ET's really depend on the rest of the car and the driver.. and his tuning.

I've already upgraded the heads with springs, screw in studs and better retainers...all this for anticipation of a larger cam in the futur.

For now though I would like to see how much I can get out of the stock cam. I am getting the heads, headers and SDPC installed early next week, then off to get a custom YPipe some tuning and the track. I should be at the track by the following Saturday

What kind of machine work would I need with the Hotcam kit? Your numbers (370hp/425lbft) seem higher than I expected but I sure hope you're right I was planning on about 285-300 rwhp but if you're right I should be around 310-320. Awesome, thanks for the reply! Kepp 'em comin!

The stock vortec spring are only good to about 480 lift. You need to put springs that can handle the 525 lift of the hot cam with 1.6 rockers. The heads need to be machined to accept the bigger springs. At that point you might as well install screw in studs to be on the safe side.
