What fuel pressure are you running at to pass emissons?I tried to get mine to pass at 40#'s but failed the HC ppm.Passed the CO % & NO ppm.Was thinking of setting the pressure by the block learn (128).any ideas or suggestions? Thanks

Is it failing just idle or at speed on the rollers too. If just at idle i'd raise teh idle speed up to 1000 or maybe even higher for the sake of the test. Even though your cam isn't that big, it could be letting some extra fuel past with the overlap at a low idle.
Other than that, as long as your BLMs aren't stuck at 108, dropping FP isn't going to help you much. How old is your O2 sensor?

Ed I replaced the O2 sensor last yr @ inspection.maybe 2morrow I'll switch it w/ the new one that I installed for the air/fuel gauge.what about setting the fuel pressure by the block learn?
BTW Ed if your still there get on IM.k

I'm at work, be here for a while longer. Try me on IM either at 7 or later on like 11.
Also, how bad are you failing? If you're close you could try some rubbing alcohol in the tank.

Ed the block learn didnot change as I changed the fuel pressure. The pressure changed on the fuel gauge but not the block learn.I lowered it & the block learn didn't change so I raised all the way and the block learn didn't change at all.Block learn is at 160 @ idle but changes to 128 while driving and rises till it gets to 160.

If your BLMs are at 160 something is wrong. Could easily be a lazy / dying O2 sensor, or even an exhuast leak upstream of the O2. If you're failing HCs odds are it's falsely adding fuel. Then again, a lean misfire could fail you too because of the unburnt fuel going through. You still didn't say how close you were either or what type of e-test you're failing.

Ed they didn't tell me which test it failed & when I called to find out the mechanic was gone for the day. What's bothering me is the 160 block learn that doesn't change at all when the fuel pressure is changed. Can't make any sense of that.

BTW I'll replace the O2 just to elimanate that's the problem 2morrow.

Working up to 160 block learns indicates it's fattening up the mix as far as it can (160 is the top-stop with a stock chip and ECM). Something's definitely wacky.
Your HCs also indicate it's going too rich, so you've got multiple things pointing the same way. Could well be a bad O2.
I have learned recently that Block Learns don't carry over from start to start. You would think they do, but my observations with multiple scan tools on multiple engines tells me they don't. Dialogs with other members on this board also tell me what I'm seeing is how it's supposed to work (resetting the block learns from start to start every time you turn off and remove the key). So if what I'm seeing is correct it's not unusual to see BLMs start at 128 and then work their way up to whatever they ultimately stabilize at over a period of run time sufficient for the ECM to "learn" in all the various blocks.
Doesn't mean it's learning correctly (if the O2 is bad) but starting at 128 from a fresh start every time seems to be how it operates.
