it seems crazy to pay nearly 700 dollars for stock-like intake upgrades(edlebrock intake and runners).... and don't forget about spending hours porting the plenum

when you can just buy the holley stealth ram with afpr for 550ish

what am i missing here? sounds like i should definately skip the stock-like intake upgrades and just get the stealth ram...

are there some hidden costs i'm missing?

Some of us have strict emissions testing and not having an EGR valve would be a problem.

I would love to run the holley stealth ram.

the holley stealth ram, fuel rails, and regulator goes for around $540. then you need to adapt the fuel lines to the fuel rails. about anther $110. then if you are a lucky one like me, you'll need a small cap distributor (85-86 had the large cap). that can be up to another 190 for a new one. of course you can get one from a junkyard. so now you are up to $840

To get the most out of HSR you would also have to make a custom chip to get more fuel on top end. Also you would need a higher stall torque converter and taller gears, in addition to a bigger cam. The good news is that this all stuff a LTR setup needs for best results, it is just much more needed with the HSR. Also firebird owners get to hack out some support bracing under the hood. Then there also is the problem that to run the HSR to its full potential you'll probalby be running your engine out at least another 1000 or so rpm which might be a problem with a high mile engine. Or course LT1 cars have wimpy torque converters and only marginally better gears and cams, and they run faster than any thirdgen stock so you could probably get by with just a good custom made PROM, and save the other things for when you can afford to go faster.

well i was using the wimpy lt1 converter. it's actually a 2100 corvette oe converter. got 1.76 60ft times with it. when i had my 94 z28 it went 13.98 stock with the stock converter and 2.73 gears.

just found a place that sells a fuel line adapter kit for the stealth ram. this way you don't have to cut and flare teh lines under the car.

Here is a list of the stuff I used to run the fuel lines, I can get some pics by Thursday if anyone wants to see them:

3 Aeroquip -6AN Straight swivel fitting = $17.97 ($5.99 each)
1 Aeroquip -6AN 45 degree swivel fitting = 16.99 each
1 Earls Hard tube adapter -6AN to 3/8" = $9.69 each
1 Earls Hard tube adapter -6AN to 5/16" = $9.69 each
1 Aeroquip -6AN steel braided hose 6ft = $27.99 each

Total $82.33

Using these parts I just cut the fuel lines (no need to flare them with the Earls fittings) near the trans and ran them to the back of the stealth ram. You might be able to save some money by replacing the 45 degree fitting with another straight one, but I am not sure how well that would work. I can give part numbers if anyone wants them.

You don't HAVE to cut the fuel rails. Holley/Earl's make GM fitting adapters...unfortunately I can't find the part numbers right now.

I think I have about 80-100 bucks in my fuel adapters and lines...but I didn't want to cut the fuel lines because I didn't want to get bit in the **** if I wanted to go back to TPI. You can see my fuel hoses going up and around the master cylinder. I used Aeroquip Socketless hose for this setup. Very easy to work with and you can cut the hose to the correct length...

You guys need to quit shoping on ebay. 550 for HSR w/adj FPR!! EGADS!!...Stealth Ram is around 450 for the std kit w/std regulator...another 50 if you opt for the fuel rail kit w/adjustable regulator. Holley Stealth Ram...
