ignition coil faulty or improperly grounded????
I was trying to isolate a miss I have in the L98 I just had rebuilt. I was trying to see if it was isolated to certian cylinders. With the car running I would remove each wire from the distributor to see what cylinder was acting up. Each time I did this the wire from my dist cap to my coil would arch out on the coil from the dist wire plugged into the coil to the coil itself. Is the coil supposed to be grounded or is this correct??? It just seemed to me that the spark should not jump from an insulated wire on the coil to the coil itself. I was hoping someone could shed some light on this, maybe I didn't ground something properly when installing the new motor. Plugs, wires, cap, rotor, distributor, pick up, module are all new, with the coil being the only thing not changed but it seemed to test fine on both primary and secondary side. Any ideas are appreciated.

The coil is just your run of the mill stock GM coil. I just was wondering if this is abnormal or not. Like I said the spark is jumping about 1 inch from the plug boot to the coil with any of the cylinder wires removed from the dist. cap. Anyone want to go out and try it on their engine and let me know?
