The road to 300hp
What's the best/most affordable way to hit 300hp with an '87 305 TPI (don't say drop in a 350...later on down the line it will be). I already have intake, ignition, catback exhaust, airfoil, ported intake manifold. thermostat.

Headers will also transfer over..
And while it won't give you any more hp,gears are a great mod especially if you have the 2.73's like me

I take it lt4 intake and most cams all transfer to 350? Do heads transfer as well? I don't think my 150k engine would appreciate NOS.

Car: Check The Sig
heads transfer, but will increase the compression ratio a ton over what was on the 350 before. Everything else can transfer: headers, cam, intake,.. knock sensor is gunna need to be changed and bigger injectors.. I plan a similar build up(as you ca see in the sig) and i hope to reach into the 13's by next year with suspension and new TC. good luck man 305 for life!(or till i have enuff for a 350)

Is an LT1 intake going to give me any power gains over a ported stock 305 intake?

PS-Apparently you can't say rycer in your sig.

300 HP at the flywheel is reasonable with a 305 TPI, at least I think so. But 300HP ain't gonna do much for ya if you're running high gears ( low number like 2.73 ) , stock stall torque converter etc...
Basics..
Add some headers. These will work with any size small block you decide to drop in...
A true cold air induction setup is usually worth a few ponies as well, and cheap and easy to make.
Get some gear... This is the BIGGEST BANK FOR THE $ for ALL CARS saddled with 3.08 , 2.73 etc gears. This is the biggest SOTP difference you will feel. You'll never regret going to a lower gear.
Okay...you might when you start replacing tires, but hey that's how it goes.
After building up several cars, that's now my first mod...if a car is saddled with crappy highway gears, I start hunting for better ones. I'm a big fan of 3.42's, but that's just me and the TPI talking
You might consider a cam swap if you can score a cam at a reasonable cost, all depends on how long you plan on keeping the 305.

I agree, I would change the gears out with something a little larger. If you have a manual, do something like 3.73, if you have a auto, I would stick around 3.42. There reason is that auto tranny will help put the torque down, but will be harder to drive in rain/snow/etc. with an auto and 3.73. Plus you will still save some gas.
Do all of the above listed mods, then do that 75 shot!

and then with a 2400 stall conveter, LCA's, custom prom, transgo shift kit, billet servo, and good tires. a 13.50 run should be very feasible
thats what my plans are. also the heads and cam choice will make tenths depening on what you exactly pick out for your setup
