thoughts/opinions/experience with tpis cams and rockers?

just checking out their site and i have yet to decide on a cam and roller rockers for my engine (non roller cam). their rockers seem to be priced about on par with everyone else. any reason to get theirs over another brand? anyone have any experience or thoughts on these cams?

TPiS Flat Tappet Hydraulic Cams

TPiS has tested hundreds of cams on the Dyno in engines equipped with Tuned Port Injection. We tried many different centerlines, lifts and durations and have settled on only a few. You will notice that the lift numbers are modest - this will keep the velocity high around the head of the valve, which improves the combustion process. We recommend that you use Crane high intensity hydraulic lifters with our cams for a little nicer idle quality with no loss of power - and sometimes a gain.

700-134- Small block (Torque Secrets Flat Tappet)

Intake Exhaust
Advertised duration 276 286
Duration at .050 221 230
Gross lift .454 .454
Lobe separation 112

700-135-Small block

Intake Exhaust
Advertised duration 280 280
Duration at .050 224 224
Gross lift .495 .495
Lobe separation 112

Except for the Mini-Ram, I wouldn't buy anything from TPIS either. It's a really good quality part.

As far as cams go, I don't know if you have an 87 or newer car, but if you do, go get a ZZ4 cam. It's a fantastic cam for all around performance. I get a smooth-as-silk idle (18-19 inHg vacuum) and tons of power that never seems to run out.

go with tpis. i have a zz-409 in my car. my buddy has a zz4 in his 90 formula 350. we have the exact same setup right down to the exhaust except my car has a vacuum leak at the intake(disadvantage-me), and his has an aftermarket intake base(advantage-him). we raced not much past 1\8 mile and i smoked his ***. i was 2-3 cars on him and still pulling hard when i let up. so at least compared to a zz-409, i am not impressed at all with the zz4. even though a bit pricey, the quality is top notch.

IIRC the zz-409 is a much bigger cam than the ZZ4. Remeber, the ZZ4 is stock computer compatible, thats why its very popular.

I forgot about that. if you get a zz-409 you definitely have to get a chip for it. i dont even think mine will run with the stocker. stock chips with speed density are very picky with cams. also i went to the strip and found out that you cant leave the stock tuned port on with a cam this big. it needs major porting or a different intake to make big power where it wants to. i think it peaks at 5500rpm or so and the stock system is done way before that.

I wouldn't pay their prices for their cams. If you want that grind you can get it somewhere else for cheaper. I purchased an off the shelf Comp Cam that had the nearly the same specs as the ZZ9 cam and paid $200 less.(Exhaust lift was slightly less but not significant).
