TPI on LT-1?
i got a question guys...i have an 84 z-28 5-speed. i am wanting to put in a 350 86-88 vette LT-1 engine in it, and then a TPI system on the Lt-1 heh...anyways...was just wonderin if it was compatable, and also was wonderin how i would go about doing this, (if anyone could suggest some good LT-1 or TPI books for me to pick up that would be great)

Umm..... The mid 80's Vettes did not com with a LT1 engine, it was the L98 engine, basically the same as a the Camaro TPI's, only difference was the injectors and on some the heads were aluminum. If you have the Vette engine it should be a TPI, if it is the factory engine. If it isn't, then you will have to find out what the engine in the Vette really is. A TPI intake will not fit on a LT1 long block with out some heavy machine work. If you want a LT1 look into the mid 90's Camaro/Firebirds. Plus I would never replace the intake on a FI Lt1 for a TPI, that is like going backwards on the performance scale. A LT1 breathes way better then any TPI.

No reason whatsoever to run a TPI
intake on an LT1 block.. Either run a
LT1 intake, or get an L98 block..

Yeah a couple of things... There were two corvette engines made with similar codes, the LT1 and LT-1. The LT-1 was a carbed motor they made in the 60's I think (anyone know the dates?) and the LT1 is the FI motor made from 92-97. I guess putting TPI on an LT-1 might be a good idea but like Cruzin said, putting TPI on an LT1 is going backwards in technology. Corvettes from 86-88 came with the L98 TPI engine....in fact the real years of L98 vette production are 85-91 I believe. Before that they used CFI (cross fire injection).

It's possible to run TPI on an LT1, although anybody that does it probably needs his head examined. Ligenfelter produced the Super Ram for the LT1 for a short period of time, and some of the bases are still floating around. If you can find an LT1 super ram base, you can run a stock/aftermarket TPI plenum and runners with it.
But you might as well keep the LT1 intake and shove a potato up the tail pipe. It's cheaper and will give you the same results.

ahh there is no LT1 from 86-88.. never ever. There might be LT1 intake on a l98 block.. but never were they stock in thoes years. there is no need to put tpi on a LT1 anyway.. unless you had a 350 truck engine that was a Gen 2 block, and you didnt have any money to put on a lt1.. thats posible. but i agree that tpi is a step back in the evolution of FI. thats like putting on cross fire on a firehawk....
And here is todays history lesson....the LT1 engine that were back in the good ol'days were found in 701/2 Camaro Z28's and Vettes.. only if you ordered it.. 360 for the camaro, and 370hp for the Vette but the engine was the same... the engine was a wise upgrade because of insurance and emmisions were killin big block power... in the late 80's, early 90's when GM was looking a new RPO for the new Gen II engine, they thought retro and went back to the LT1 code... and The same with the LS1/6 like the LS6/7's found in Chevelles.
