I know this has been asked, but cant find it...

How hard is it to swap a cam in to my 305? i wana go with a ZZ9 or some type of cam.. anythings better then my POS thats in there now... anyway... could i do it in my own garage?... what is needed, or should i just not even bother, and get it installed at a shop? i dont wana hear get a 350 bs... i am... its coming fellas.. but for now, i want a cam that will work good for the 305... i wana be gettin into the low 14's soon, and cam, full exhaust, and porting porting porting is what i think i need to get there.. im not gunna bother with heads... unless i can find a cheap pair of ported alum L98 heads...anyway.. give me some feed back on could i do this in my garage? or should i just go to a shop?

Yeah you could do it in your garage. You just need a balancer puller/installer and a torque wrench. Gotta drain your cooling system, remove the intake manifold, lifters, radiator, condenser, water pump, timing cover and chain. You'll want to pick up intake gaskets and water pump gaskets, also some rtv and loctite and a timing chain/gears. A chiltons/helms/haynes manual would help, but you could do it without one by looking up torque specs and such.

i got all the gaskets and RTV you could want... i got them on ebay.. nice set for like 35... ahhh i might just get someone install it

thanks, but i did that already... and thats y i came here to find out some info... i thought there was some info, but i didnt see anything on what i need to put a new cam in..

Did you even try the link? Those were Sonar_un's old posts describing every single part, cost, and step involved in a basic cam swap. That wasn't just a general search on the word "cam swap". If you don't see what you need in there, then you aren't going to get anything better here at all. Check out Day 7.
