HELP! 305 died tonight
check this out...I blew a hose while my car was IDLING when I was running an errand at the bank. I come out and its billowing and my temp gauge is through the roof! fix hose, add coolant, pray.
seems cool. I drive to work and alls good. then I'm driving to my buddys house and bam, volt guage drops to like 8, lights flicker, smoke everywhere..looks like its from the back of my block. So...head gasket? cracked block? either way I'm F!@#$ed for a while.
if its the block, I'm dropping in a 350. what all can I use off my 305 and what do I need to get?
thanks,
Jason

Sounds like an electrical problem if the voltage is low and the lights are flickering. Alternator take a crap? It's happened to me! My damn alternator siezed once when I was in the middle of the boonies. Thank *** for cellphones.

Sounds like something shorted out. A blown head gasket wouldnt cause the lights to flicker and your guage to drop, but it would make your car run hot and blow antifreeze out of the radiator depending on how bad it is.

Water shot on your cooling fan and into your alternator maybe? Heh. Sounds like big problems. If there is smoke pouring from your exhaust your engine/heads/intake or some gasket between them is toast, depending on what's burning. But yeah like Danny said, check your oil and you might want to do a compression test and a pressure test on the cooling system.
