Knock Sensor Questions...

I was doing some research for the MAF to MAP car at this page:
http://www.eecis.udel.edu/~davis/z28/ecm_swap_730/

Well it is talking about how the 92 KS has a 3.9k resistor for the computer, and the MAF is running 100k ohm resistor. First of all, whey would GM change it that much, was the KS having problems in the MAF cars, are they more prone to knock and that is why they changed them? Second question, I am running headers and am getting some knock. Can I make it less sensitive to knock with something like a 90k ohm resistor, or will the computer mess up and think that the KS is having problems? Or should I not worry about it.

PS Please move this to the appropriate board if not here, just wasn't sure if this should be in the PROM board or here.

Thanks

If you wanted the KS to be less sensitive wouldn't you add more resistance? A knock sensor producese voltage when it senses a knock right? You'd want to make the ecm see less voltage. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Your right, you would need to add like a 110k ohm for more resistance. I wasn't thinking when I typed that in. I just wanted to see if that would work if I can't bring my knock lower. I am customizing a chip right now for next weekend, and I wanted to see if that would cause any problems...

Also, where is the resistor that is in there now? Is it located in the smaller box (can't remember the name) on the cowl?

Thanks

Thats a good question. I don't know where that resistor is.

I thought only the OBD computers and newer could even tell if the KS was even hooked up or not. I thought you could just unhook the sensor if it was giving false signal?

I must have skipped over that one. I don't think that I have enough room because the headers are in the way. It would have to be a short pipe. I do some more research and see what I can't find.

Thanks

I still think that you should find out why it is getting spark knock like it is and fix that. It's probable something hitting on the exhaust.

I'm going to take it to the exhaust shop. I mainly just asked this question to see if it would work. Just doing some research, there's nothing else to do.
